If you've followed Dale and my discussion about the website, you'll
remember that I try for a mix of local and wider issues on the front
page. I find this research meaningful and gratifying. Indeed, I'm
grateful for it.

Some of the puzzles I turn over in my mind are the facets of my need for
God. I need an object to my gratitude. If the first prayer is,
"Thanks!", I need a "Thank You!", where the nature of You is to be
determined. I believe nothing without evidence, and am certain
creativity and benevolence (fecundity and loving-kindness?) are true of
this nature.

Anyway, I propose to point to this article from StJohnW. I ask your
approval because to reference it is kinda an endorsement of this Berkley
Center, which you might not want to do. Personally, I like the kind of
work Templeton funds, often a great deal!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, inviting us to think about
what’s at the heart of our romantic relationships. Is there some sort of
“glue” that binds us together with other people?

The GGSC’s coverage of gratitude is sponsored by the John Templeton
Foundation as part of our Expanding Gratitude project.

A recent study from GGSC Gratitude Research Fellow Sara Algoe and
colleague Baldwin Way, published earlier this month in Social Cognitive
and Affective Neuroscience, suggests the answer may be gratitude.

It’s well-established that being grateful is a unique and powerful way
to foster healthy relationships, but science is just now beginning to
understand that there there’s a biological mechanism behind “thank you.”
