Lucky Plush Combines Dance and Satire - To Play LSC March 21
Kingdom County Productions and Lyndon State College will present the award-winning Chicago-based Lucky Plush dance theater in a special performance, 7:30pm, Friday, March 21st at the Twilight Theater, Lyndon State College. Tickets are now on sale at the Catamount Arts regional box office or by calling 802-748-2600. Online sales are available at KingdomCounty.org.
Lucky Plush will perform "Cinderbox 2.0" that explores the reality television and the anxiety of hyper-networked America. The troupe creates an experience that's hilarious, thought-provoking, and unpredictable. With offbeat comedy and cracked storytelling, Lucky Plush skewers modern media's voyeuristic approach to "reality" and blurs the line between audience and performer.
Produced with Artistic Director Julia Rhoads (winner of the 2013 Alpert Award), Cinderbox 2.0 is "a shrewd and witty commentary on recovering the humanity from an increasingly manufactured way of life" (Chicago Tribune).
Lucky Plush is committed to provoking and supporting an immediacy of presence -- a palpable liveness -- shared by performers in real-time with audiences. They are equally dedicated to creating work that is richly and uncompromisingly complex while also being accessible to broad audiences. Their work is often recognized for its playful interactions, surprising humor and incisive commentary on contemporary culture. The Chicago Tribune referred to Lucky Plush's work as "A terrific odyssey, full of amusing, varied and tireless dancing by a troupe of dancers who ably double as comics."
Since founding in 1999, Lucky Plush has premiered more than 30 original works, 2 dance films, and 10 evening-length productions. Recent and upcoming presentations of the company's work include Spoleto Festival/USA, Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, DANCECleveland, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and Jacob's Pillow. Lucky Plush has been supported by a National Dance Project (NDP) Production Grant, an NDP Production Residency for Dance award, and a National Performance Network Creation Fund award. The company has been recognized by Chicago Public Radio's "Best of 2011;" The Chicago Reader's "Best of Chicago 2010"; Time Out Chicago's "The Decade's 10 Best Original Dance Works"; The Chicago Tribune's "Best of Dance 2008"; Chicago Sun Times' "Lasting memories in Dance" for 2005 and 2007; and a Time Out Chicago feature cover story "5 reasons to love dance in Chicago."
