Respected NATIONAL MGSOSA Leaders,
I regret and apologize for not being able to attend the conference call last night. Day 12 with no power or heat. =/
Bikki, debriefed me last night about the meeting and really happy to hear about the decisions made.
I have a suggestion for you all.
Helping those in need is our mission and purpose as a Church. I remember the verses from: 1 John 4:7-8, "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." We need to show our Love for God by self-lessly loving one another and this disaster can be a test from God to see our Love for him.
We have a Missions trip to Kerala scheduled for December. Along with that, I request that the concerned MGSOSA leaders utilize this opportunity to work here.
For that, I would like to humbly propose a National Missions trip. This is a missions trip that EVERY parishioner in North America can participate on.
Supplies seem to be the concern here in the Northeast.
- For that, if each of our parishes in TEXAS, FLORIDA, OKL, ATL, NJ, MD, NY can collect on of the following supplies:
-
MOST ESSENTIAL ITEMS - Work gloves, batteries, flashlights, face masks, thick black contractor bags, Mops, brooms, shovels, bleach, clorox, buckets, CLOTHS, JACKET
- Parishes in the West Coast, Midwest and Canada can fundraise money to purchase the following in bulk:
- Baby cough medicine, BAND-AIDS, Neosporin, Ace bandages, Advil, Tylenol.
- Many youth members work at retail pharmacies, who may be able to buy this in bulk for a discount.
After collecting these supplies from Now till Nov 17th, we can rent a u-haul truck from TX and with the help of few youth members who are willing to volunteer, we do a National road trip up the east coast.
- Sunday- MGSOSA Truck starts collection from Oklahoma Church and proceeds to Dallas-->Houston.
- Monday- Start from Houston-->Tampa(collects both Florida Churches contribution from here)
- Tuesday-Tampa-->ATL
- Wednesday-ATL--> Augusta-->CLT
- Thursday- CLT-->Maryland/DC
- Friday- Maryland/DC-->NJ/SI-->Rockland
- Saturday- Rockland-->Long Island Churches
- Sunday- Members from throughout the Northeast can gather to go deliver it to Rockaway.
Cost: U-haul Rental, Gas/toll, flight tickets for our volunteers back home (Perhaps Archdiocesan Relief Fund can help us)
Participants: In addition to the help of local parish members, if we coordinate this properly, we can arrange for NEW drivers at certain points. The old drivers can be given a rental car back to their cities OR just have 2 volunteers for the whole trip.
