Extensions are additional pro functions that you can choose to add to Luminar Neo. Again, this is where it gets a little confusing - you can either buy the entire set of seven extensions or get an annual subscription for Luminar Neo Pro which includes them all.
SuperSharp AI (I also had predicted a sharpening extension) is designed to go head-to-head with Topaz but at this point, it's just not there yet. Topaz still has the edge on the sharpening feature.
Magic Light AI is the final extension that is currently available. What this one does is adds an effect to light sources where you can make them into a twinkly starburst or more of a glow. This is one you have to see in action to understand. I did an overview of it on YouTube as well.
Panorama Stitching was released July 20, 2023. It allows you to stitch together multiple images into a panorama as well as the stunning ability to make a panorama photo from a video! It even allows for working with bracketed images in your pano shots that are both combined into HDR first, and then into a panoramic photos in one fell swoop. See a complete demonstration of the new Luminar Neo Panorama Stitching extension here.
The pricing for Luminar Neo is a bit complicated now because you have the choice to either buy it outright (lifetime license on that version) or go with the subscription plan (you'll always have the current version). On top of that are also options for getting the extensions if you so choose.
With the HDR Merge module, a competitor has now entered the field and since the last comparison, Lightroom Classic can also merge HDR exposure series. And in the meantime, the times are also long gone when you could recognize an HDR image from afar.
Note. HDR Merge is an extension to Luminar NEO that will replace Skylum Aurora HDR. You can use it to merge up to 10 images, or use just one photo, thanks to AI, bringing out its true colors and light to create fantastic HDR shots.
Designed for all fans of HDR photography, HDR Merge compiles multiple exposure-bracketed images into a single HDR image. It can merge up to 10 photos and deliver a spectacular level of color enhancement, making the final result look as close as possible to what the eye sees. HDR Merge is scheduled to be released on July 28, and the preorder has already started. Preorder deal ending soon: HDR Merge in Luminar Neo
Aurora HDR owners will get the opportunity to buy Luminar Neo with a loyalty discount and receive the HDR Merge extension for free. Additionally, Skylum customers with Luminar Neo subscriptions will get the Aurora HDR Merge extension for free.
But what really sets Luminar Neo apart is the range of special tools, some powered by AI (Artificial Intelligence). Some are extremely useful and all are fun to play with. Some come with the basic program and others must be purchased as extensions, depending on the plan you choose. Here are a few that caught my eye.
The fusion of AI and HDR imaging has revolutionized the way we create and enhance photographs. By embracing AI-powered software, photographers can leverage advanced algorithms to effortlessly merge exposures, intelligently tone-map, enhance details, and achieve stunning results. As AI technology continues to evolve, we can look forward to even more innovative features that will empower photographers to push the boundaries of their creative vision and unlock the full potential of HDR imaging. Embrace the power of AI, and embark on a journey of creating breathtaking HDR images like never before.
