Great news! Stimfit and the stfio module are now part of MacPorts.
Make sure you have the latest ports tree:
$ sudo port selfupdate
You can then get stimfit using:
$ sudo port install stimfit
And the stfio module:
$ sudo port install py27-stfio py33-stfio
Make sure you delete the Stimfit directory entry from
/opt/local/etc/macports/sources.conf in case you've added it before
running selfupdate.
This is now the default way of installing Stimfit on OS X. We don't
supply installation packages for OS X any longer because of
fragmentation issues with OS X versions (10.5--10.9), Python versions
(2.x, 3.x) and architectures (i386, x86_64, ppc).
Best,
Christoph
