Isthere a way to change Addin location? Currently it is C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Inventor Addins\. Up to this point we have synced this folder between CAD users so when I update an addin everyone gets the current version.
This is becoming a problem as IT locks down and blocks more stuff. If this location could be moved it would allow us to use a cloud folder or a network drive. Ideally it would use Vault but I don't see any support for addin storage. Hope I'm missing something.
Addins can be saved under the user AppData folder which might get around any reasonable IT locking down. I personally have my custom addin saved under a folder in this folder.
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins
Another option is hosting the DLL on a network drive. The .addin file still needs to reside on the local machine for Inventor to read it and then load the DLL. The following line in the .addin file can be changed to have a custom path. Someone else posted this before as a solution for easy updating since every PC would be pointed to a single DLL.
I did some experimenting and I can add app files to Vault and run a simple addin to copy them to local vault folder. I will need to see if I can copy them down at inventor startup before addins are loaded or if I need an external program to do that after inventor exits. Seems like a cleaner solution as network and mapped drives will not need to be available.
I am working in a colaborative environment here and we have our content center LIBRARY in a location on our company network. Currently, we have Inventor storing the content center FILES in a location also on the network. This is working ok so far. We also have folders on the network for different tooling projects. Each folder and project has it's own Inventor project file. My question is this: Can Inventor be set up so that under File- options-application options- default Content Center Files- dialog box, always point to the same folder that the project file is created in? That way, all of the hardware etc, will always be in the same folder as all the parts and assemblies.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you want the content center pieces that are used for each project stored with the rest of the files in the project? Under each project file in the folder options, you can set a specific folder to use for the content center files for the active project. Inventor should then save to and look in that location for content center files with the project active. I'm not sure if there's a generic string you could put in this field to make it always the same folder relative to the project file workspace ("something like [Workspace]\Models\Content Center Files")or if you manually have to enter it in as an absolute path like "C:\Projects\21103\Models\Content Center Files".
It should be noted that this is something that could be a royal pain to change for all existing projects depending on how many you have and how large the files are. If you do want to change it for existing projects, make one assembly that contains all other assemblies from the project and do a pack and go from the save menu to have inventor round up the content center files for you before you change the location.
You create a project file (.ipj) that you will copy every time you need to create a new project. At my last job we created hundreds of new projects each year; to set one up all we had to do was copy our "template" folder structure which contained the template project file, and then change the names of the root folder and the included project file.

The issue is the way inventor creates new project files entirely from scratch. The typical workflow I've seen is to have a "template" project file that gets copied and renamed. It's a little bit of a workaround though. They should incorporate pulling from a template into the new project button in my opinion, instead of entirely from scratch. On that note, here's an idea forum post to vote on for improving the new project creation.

Capabilities of the respective editions remains unchanged.
Please note that this transition is still a work-in-progress, and you may still encounter areas in the product or documentation where the previous naming remains. We apologize for any confusion this may cause.
Follow the instructions to download and launch the installer. Temporary extraction is to your temp folder. Operating system errors regarding very long path names can occur if the temporary location is nested too many levels deep.
