Weare updating our store equipment to run in the Windows 7 Pro platform. I have a Zebra LP2844 bar code printer. I have downloaded and installed the drivers, tested in the Zebra Utility and fine tuned the labels to work in Store Operations Mgr. However, everytime I launch SOMgr, I get the Warning: 919 The OPOS driver was not found. I went on the Zebra website and they had an OPOS driver for Win 7 and I downloaded it. However, it only had the ZPL model LP2844-Z option to choose, which is not what I have. I called the Zebra Support and they said only the ZPL models will have the OPOS drivers for Win 7. They advised me to contact Microsoft to see if they have a packet that will fix this in their application. Any direction on where I can find this? Really do not want to enter another ticket just for this.

This error has nothing to do with the label printer. There is an invalid OPOS device driver defined for the station. See Store Operations Manager, Database, Registers, Register List, select the station, Properties, and review settings for Receipt Printer 1, Receipt Printer 2, and Cash Drawer. An OPOS driver is defined with an invalid name or one is enabled that does not exist.

As far as the Zebra printer goes, you should install the Windows driver if you are using custom labels created in Label Designer, or a Generic Text-only driver if you are sending printer commands (EPL) directly to the printer using labels created with Notepad.

Thank you for the reply, my recommendation would be to verify which Windows Driver the manufacturer recommends for Windows 7 and the printer you are using. I am not suggesting that you use an older one

I read through the article, but this is for another model than the one I have, LP2824. Are you suggesting to use the same universal driver for the later model LP2844? I do have the original Zebra disk that came with the printer. Unfortunately, it does not have files for the Windows 7 platform. The original disk was for installations in earlier OS Windows environments.

So I downloaded the correct "driver" for the printer. The Mac sees it and when I sent projects to it, the Mac acts like it is doing its job but it won't print anything. I know the cables are good. I am able to get it to print via an old windows laptop but would prefer to use my Mac. Anyone have any tips?

I am sorry I can not be more specific, but I would contact the printer manufacturer to confirm that the driver is really compliant with your operating system. They should be willing to help you troubleshoot the problem. If all fails, then check out the link below where users create drivers and share them.

I've been trying to get my LP 2844-Z shipping label printer (Z means that it uses the ZPL language) to work with two machines, one with Snow Leopard, and one with Mountain Lion. I set up the printer using the built in ZPL driver that is included in OSX 10.6.6 and higher. I am able to print a test page from CUPS at "localhost:631/" and the CUPS test page prints crystal clear text but the CUPS test image is a bit blurry. Whenever I try to print something from Mac OSX, I get very blurry images printed. If just printing black text, text usually shows up as more of a speckled gray.

I've made sure that the paper size is correctly set to 4x6 inch within OSX and I've even tried scaling images to the exact 203 dpi resolution and 4x6 inch size that the printer uses, but I always get the same blurry printing result.

I've tried printing identical images from Windows and it prints perfectly with both text and images. I also tried making a 4x6 native text only document in word and just printing that out in mac, and the image is faint and speckled with just text. On windows, the same test prints perfectly clear solid black letters as it should.

Below are scans of what the ouput looks like of the CUPS test page printed from OSX and an identical native 4x6 Word document printed on mac and on windows. As you can see from the CUPS Test Page, the image is not very clear, but the text is.

There is a solution to this problem but you need to pay for a commercial driver, which images the data in the same way as the PC drivers do. The commercial driver supports hundreds of thermal label printers including the LP2844Z, it is also a lot faster at processing the pages and can achieve 3" of labels at full speed in this printer which means your shipping labels come out fast.

Well, I figured out why text sometimes prints clearly (for example in the test page printout) in Mac and other times not. The printer only has basic fonts on it, so when something like Helvetica is used, it does print clearly, but again this is only for text and only supported fonts (other fonts print blurry). The test text printouts I was doing on both windows and mac were not using the built in fonts of the printer. Windows was able to handle it anyway without a problem because windows apparently just sends prints over as RAW data (or some other type of non-text data) and creates a pixel-perfect image since it controls each pixel from the computer's software side and not the printer's (or at least that's my reasoning anyway).

Please note that FedEx (Domestic And SmartPost) on eBay does not support the Zebra printers yet. Unfortunately they don't have the format needed.

You can print the FedEx labels on a Zebra printer but it requires certain extra steps (Save FedEx label as a PDF using Google Chrome, Open The Label With Adobe Reader, Crop The Label Using The Snapshot Tool & Print) since it does not work directly.

I have a problem with my Zebra TLP2844-Z. It seems to work fine when I print small labels but everytime I want to print labels that have barcodes or a little bit thicker lines on them the printer would just stop. It wont continue to feed or print, doesnt respond when I press the button, doesnt start blinking when I open the lid, Just a solid green light. And I am unable to communicate with it over Zebra Printing utilities or anything for that matter. I tried connecting to it via USB directly or over a USB to parralel adapter. Both have the same results. I have tried, recalibrating, resizing, changing the speed and darkness settings even switching labels, but nothing works. I tried searching for sample labels and printing them but the same results. As soon as there is a line that is a bit thicker it just freezes. I mostly use Linux and the CUPS ZPL 2 driver but the same behavier occurs when using windows with Zebra printing utilities. I also tried swapping the printhead, mostly because mine seemed demaged but it didnt help with my problem. Can someone explain to me what is going on here? Any help is apprechiated
