   Thank you for joining the practice today.

As Tenny Achen advised, we'll have 30 mins practice session immediately after Qurbana on Dec 7th, 14th and 21st.
This is in preparation for the Christmas service (evening prayer & morning service).
Please listen & familiarize the tunes from YouTube link.

We also need to prepare a separate song for the Christmas program on 25th.
Do you have any suggestion on a good group song (recommend with Karaoke/music). Please share.
We'll plan 1 hr practice across 2 or 3 weekdays in the evenings leading to Christmas.
Seems like that's the slot we can get as many members to rehearse. Weekends may not be feasible due to Carols.

Kindly plan to make yourself available for these sessions.

  As you know, we've been requested to perform a group song for the Christmas program.

It took me quiet a while to get a good unsung christmas song with Karaoke.

We'll practice this once tomorrow after Qurbana, (before Carol service). Hopefully we can meet another weekday evening this week too. Let's pick up a day tomorrow.

I suggest we meet a 3rd time on 24th evening or next sunday after service. Kindly plan some time to rehearse this as a group.

I couldn't find the manglish version of the song. Can anyone volunteer to prepare one tomorrow ?

I tried to separately record (via mobile) the 2 parts (melody & harmony) for vismaya sahitam. Click the download link.

Also copied the simple piano version for both the parts as a reference to familiarize the tune for melody and harmony. 

The first two lines are sung (and played) at a slow pace. The next two lines are at regular tempo.

We'll divide the group into 4. 

The two ladies group will sing the melody and harmony at same scale as in the recording.

The two gents group will sing the melody and harmony at an octave lower than ladies

I can explain these when we meet. We'll also figure out each group members after tomorrow's session. 

The combined.mp3 is a rough preview of how this hymn would sound.

  We had a good start to the engagement song rehearsal today.

Though its a familiar song to all us, today we experienced the complexity & challenges in singing in two parts harmony on different scales and in sync collectively.

All who attended the practice today acknowledge this requires tremendous practice (both individually and as a group).

Hence as per our collective decision today, we'll have an hour's practice on all Sundays (after Qurbana) starting tomorrow and leading to July 4th.

This is in addition to any Saturday sessions plus any other sessions we decide to rehearse (as schedule permits).

You can download the vocal (only first verse) & piano instrumental for the soprano & alto parts in the below link.

I also tried a rough mixing of both vocals (enn-2parts-vocal.mp3)  to get a sense of how the vocal would sound (only first verse).

Dear All   Sorry to inform, there won't be choir practice tomorrow after Qurbana.   As some you know I hurt my knee very badly this evening and am advised rest. Using crutches for the first time ever :-). Luckily no fractures as per xray. But will have to wait till monday for further diagnosis and prognosis. But we'll surely meet next saturday. Verse 1 & 2 - out of sync due to lack of feedback as we knew

Verse 3 to 6 - video recorded near speakers. music and vocal are well recorded.

Verse 5 to end (higher scale) - video recording panned towards the audience (away from speakers). music dropped, but vocals covered.

During the rehearsal on Oct 17th, we selected below songs/coordinators from the song/prayer book in our church.

    A seminar on effective functioning of Malankara Orthodox Church Choir was recently organized by Shruti school of liturgical music. The session was presided by Bava thirumeni and 2 metropolitans, with classes/lectures by various priests and Ousepachan (music director). 

I've heard positive feedback about this seminar through my friends in India.

  Tenny Achen has requested our choir to prepare for a prayer song and another song for Thomas Achen's 85th surprise birthday celebration. 

I've scheduled practice sessions in conjunction with Sunday school song practice sessions. I hope and pray that the Great Lent has been off to a blessed start for each and every one of you. May I take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for all the hard work you did for Thomas achen's 85th Birthday celebrations and also for the wonderful ministry you all do every Sunday.   We're resuming the choir practices starting this Saturday (2/11) from 2 pm to 4.30 pm.

This week, we'll refresh few Qurbana hymns, and also commence preparation for Lenten Retreat.

Please propose any Malayalam & English songs appropriate for the Retreat. 

All choir members are encouraged & requested to 

  - attend practice sessions regularly

  - pursue & foster the development of choral service 

  - partake in choral service during Qurbana

We'll spent some time retrospecting on past years experience & learning; and also share feedbacks and concerns.
