Judge S. James Foxman named 2010 FADAA Volunteer of the Year

Stewart-Marchman-Act is honored for the third year in a row to have one of our volunteers chosen as the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association’s (FADAA) Volunteer of the Year. Chairman of SMA’s Board of Directors, Judge James Foxman has spent his lifetime supporting addiction and mental health treatment. Highly regarded in business, social and governmental circles, Judge Foxman has been a pioneer in addressing mentally ill and substance addicted offenders with sentences to include treatment options whenever appropriate. He champions the continuity needed in law enforcement, judicial, penal and social services to address the negative impact of mental illness and substance abuse.

Previous award winners were Patrick VanDusen, Photography Volunteer, in 2009, and Steve Miller with New Start in 2008. Thank you volunteers for all you do for our clients and programs.
Day of Caring Projects Adopted
The United Way campaign of Volusia and Flagler counties kicks off on September 10th! This year’s Day of Caring Projects have been adopted by the Heroes Team at Lowe’s in Deltona and the United States Navy Recruiting office in Volusia Mall. Our projects this year are tough and necessary.
The Lowe’s Heroes Project is a retaining wall rehabilitation project at our adolescent campus. This retaining wall edges the basketball court and there is a need to spruce up this section of our play area for visual appeal and safety. Thank you Lowe’s for adopting this difficult and expensive project.
The recruiters at the Navy Recruiting Office are going to finish a project started last year of painting the outpatient offices in Bunnell. Last year Publix helped us paint the offices and this year we will finish the building .
Former SMA Volunteer Trains in Pensacola
Theresa Haines, 2010 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, was commissioned into the United States Navy as an Ensign this spring and has been transferred to Pensacola where she is learning the academics behind being a Navy pilot. “It’s academics and flying!” She is loving her time there. While here in Daytona she volunteered in administration assisting with placing Disney volunteers. We miss her here but know that her service is needed elsewhere. Go Navy!
Congratulations Theresa!!!
