I'm sure that all of you think that this is an odd thing after I tell you this. But 3 years ago I started a ritual that I've done since every Memorial Day. I never served in the military, mostly because of the eye condition I've had. However, I've always felt indebted to those men and women that have fought to help ensure that you and I enjoy the freedoms we still do.
As a part of that, I actually read and listen to General Douglas MacArthur's farewell address to the graduates at West Point. The speech is an amazing example of how even those previously that didn't consider themselves eloquent exceed those of today. But most importantly, it's a reminder of how "duty, honor, country" can teach us so much in today's time. And especially the dedication that goes even to death.
Anyway, here's to hoping that all you enjoy this as much as I do. You can read along. If you have RealPlayer installed you can click on the speaker link and listen to General MacArthur speak himself.
