TheHOT KEY' that turns on/off has a small RED Led installed which is supposed to light up when pressed to show that the Speakers are turned off, however after an update of lord knows what, as Microsoft ensure that 'secrecy' is maintained now for Win 10 updates and you get it whether you want it or not the RED Led has ceased to function, which I am hoping is a Software issue that can be resolved by installing the latest HOT KEYS Driver so.......

Using the 'HP Support System' the 'Robot' tells me to go onto the Support Page, get my Model of Laptop recognised then choose Driver Updates and select 'HOT KEYS' except when you get to the Drivers there is nothing that looks remotely like 'HOT KEYS DRIVER' in the list of all the Driver Updates.

After carrying out the steps you gave me and installing the Chipset driver and then running the Realtek Install in Admin Mode. For some obscure reason I ended up with a Microsoft HD Audio Driver installed, which did not actuate the RED Led!

I then ran it again and after re-booting the RED Led would still not work, so I went back into Device Manager and seeing 'Update Drivers' being offered I highlighted the Realtek HD Audio, and I was rather surprised to see that it found an update dated 26/01/2016 Driver Version 6.0.1.7730.

Don't know why the first couple of attempts 'failed' or if the Realtek sp73189.exe had been superceded by yet another update but at least now all is well until possibly Microsoft carry out another secret 'Update Dump' and screw something else up!

Can you post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your 15 series notebook - you can usually get this by holding down the fn key and pressing esc, otherwise see Here for a guide on locating this information.

Although the HP document may list the HP Hotkey driver as important for the led function, this is usually for business class machines - the equivalent driver for a consumer notebook is the HP System Event Utility, however this does not normally affect the functionality of the mute led, which should be provided by the audio software package.

In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

It began with a notice that my driver was out of date, so I went to the AMD website and attempted to install the update. I ran the dxdiag tool to find that I have a AMD Radeon HD 6620G graphics card. I could not find my product on the list to manually install the update, so I tried the amd driver downloader tool and it had a problem recognizing my graphics card. I then tried to update it through the HP Support Assistance and that seemed to work for awhile.

Yesterday my screen changed to the lowest resolution and a notice came up that it wasn't recognizing my graphics driver. I have again tried to manually update from the AMD website. When that didn't work I downloaded the AMD driver downloader and after installing all it told me is that "your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter" and closed the program.

This is NOT official HP Customer Support and I, as most other persons on this forum, do not work for HP. This is a peer-to-peer user supported forum for HP consumer class products. HP maintains no official presence on this forum and it is unlikely that HP will respond in an official capacity. Any reply from a HP employee represents their own opinion and not that of HP's.

AMD doesn't support the custom HP graphics system and will not provide drivers for it. Typically, HP doesn't provide "routine maintenance" updates and generally only releases updates to fix known issues. You could take the computer to a professional, however they will be capable of doing nothing more than I have suggested and maybe not even that much.

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.

The above requested information can be found on the bottom of the computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include the serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and/or post it here for our review.

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion dv7-6165us Entertainment Notebook Computer. According to the specs, this model supports Switchable Graphics and has two GPUs. The HD 6620G integrated into the APU and a discrete HD 6750M.

Please download the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver from your computer's support page. Next, delete / uninstall all graphics drivers currently installed. Reboot and install the AMD HD Graphics driver you previously downloaded. Did that resolve your issue???

If you want a more up to date driver, consider third party modifier - I recommend that you read and fully understand why driver signing enforcement needs to be disabled in order to load these drivers and what risks it may pose. You may also consider reading this HP Forum thread entitled How can I use the newest drivers for my ATI/AMD card?

I did have one question. I went to open a video game to test if the graphics were all working before I responded and said they were, and a notice came up to say that my driver was out of date. I am not very tech savvy so I am uncomfortable trying a third party modifier and worried about problems I may encounter with the information on the "How can I use the newest drivers for my ATI/AMD card?" forum thread. Do you know if HP or AMD is working on a more permanent solution to this issue (it appears I am only one of many people experiencing this problem). Alternatively, could I take my notebook to a professional and would they know how to more permanently fix my problem?

Hi, I have the same problem

one question. in my video drivers I have a intel HD Graphics 300 and a Radeon Graphics installed, it's normal? i need to have this two drivers? Can I uninstall the intel Graphics for boost my system?

The OS version is Windows 10 Home 21h2. After a very recent update, it can no longer detect and audio output. Upon entering device manager it said no Intel High Definition Audio Drivers were installed and attempting to update via device manager gave no results. If anyone know where I can get a driver for this or some other fix it would be greatly appreciated.

I found the issue. If you are experiencing the same problem as me, open Device Manager and expand the System Devices drop-down. The issue was an outdated Intel Smart Sound Driver it seems and once that was updated the problem was fixed.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately there seems to be a problem with installing and deleting drivers as the corrupt one reappears after deleting and rebooting. The problem Driver is labelled as Other Devices and named Intel High Definition Audio(Error code 28). Would you know what to do?

Hello, how was you able to fix the outdated Intel Smart Sound Driver? I have a HP pavilion x360 as well that runs on Microsoft Window 10 (64-bit) and I'm experiencing the same problem like you had. The same person, BANHIEN, that helped you out, told me to install Realtek audio drivers from the Intel website since updating to a new OS (Windows 11), that the older OS (Windows 10) audio drivers won't be supported afterwards.

All was working well. resent update result in audio failure. There is no device installed and can not be fix with drivers from Microsoft update site or manually. When connect external speaker sound is ok.

Thank you a million for posting this solution. It fixed my absent internal speakers and microphone, plus missing Bluetooth mic, issues that I've been having for months. I thought it was a hardware issue, as both HP's and Microsoft's automatic problem scanners could pick up no issue. Now that you showed the issue is in some Intel system driver that didn't update properly, I now recall back that the last time things were working, my PC was running very hot (meaning it was doing an update). Then the audio stopped. HP and Microsoft (and Intel): you should be ashamed.
