It shows in the Autocad portion (pls see the picture below) that I can access all the Autocad types including mechanical. When I installed the Autocad on my PC it only shows the regular Autocad. Have I missed something? How can I access Autocad Mechanical?
Welcome to the Autodesk Community, and thank you for posting your question here in the Installation and Licensing forum! AutoCAD Mechanical is a separate installation you will have to do. You should have access to the download through your Autodesk Account, once logged in go to All Products and Services. From here you should see AutoCAD - Including Specialized Toolsets > Select View All Included and you should see a list of products and Mechanical should be listed to download. Please see the screenshots below:
Is it a thing to put normal base CAD 2021 with the Mechanical and Electrical package?
Basically trying to combine the 2, mechanical and electrical... Not quite sure if it's possible or if I am overlooking something.
With AutoCAD subscription you have access all three but the Mechanical and Electrical can not be combined into one. You will have to open a drawing in Mechanical (or Electrical), close the drawing and open with the other one.
I ended up installing AutoCAD 2024 but I actually wanted to download and install the latest AutoCAD Electrical, is it possible I upgrade the AutoCAD 2024 I installed to the Latest AutoCAD Electrical? Please i need your advice and guide and thank you in anticipation pf your quick positive and productive response
Friend, a subscription to AutoCAD gets you access to download and install 2024 and 2023 and 2022 and 2021 PLUS all of those separate programs that you crave like AutoCADELECTRICAL of the same year versions.
Not sure how you understood any of that from my reply, unless you still are confused (as many are for good reason) by what Autodesk calls TOOLSETS: each AutoCAD variant is, in the most simplest terms, a stand-alone product.
I've installed Auctocad Mechanical 2021, but it doesn't seem any different to the normal Autocad. I've searched on the forum and tried changing the workspace, but the only options are the usual Drafting and annotations as in Autocad. I've tried reinstalling, uninstaling and installing again, but it just doesn't seem to work. I only need it to convert a 3d model to a .stp file! The annoying thing is I've used it before, so I'm wondering if I've changed something by mistake?
It sounds like the program that is opening is core AutoCAD, not Mechanical. If you are using the application shortcut on the desktop to open AutoCAD Mechanical, it may be damaged and can be replaced from the Windows button in the lower left corner.
Thanks for your reply. I was definitely opening Autocad Mechanical, but it didn't have anything mechanical in it. I have installed Autocad Mechanical on a pc and it works fine. Not sure why I can't install it properly on my laptop, but at least I've been able to create the .stp file that I needed.
They all used a combination of methods 1 and 2. Generally, some AutoCAD entities had their own layers (viewports, hatches, title blocks, and blocks) as did parts and assemblies (fasteners/fastener stacks, brackets, and beams).
As you say, I suppose it would be dependent on the drawing office standards in the company (those that have; in my 34 years drawing office experience with 11 drawing offices-I have never yet seen one set of company drawing office standards!). It just makes sense to me to have a separate layer for each component, and then create layer states for different groups of components, so as to enable easy visual manipulation of objects in close proximity or on top of each other.
Hi Mike, I transitioned from the board to acad exclusively by R13 and have worked for roughly 8 or so companies since then either directly or as a contractor. All of them use separate layers for centerlines, phantom lines, and hidden lines. Some also separate text, dimensions, and title blocks. Pretty much all of them assign a color as well as a linetype to the layer. None of them use viewports or paperspace, they all draw full scale and import the title block directly into modelspace, then scale the title block by the reciprocal of the intended drawing scale.
Object lines are typically layer 0 with color set to white. Most of the companies I worked at use blocks and about half of them assign a different layer for each part and assign a color to that layer (avoiding the colors for hidden , etc.). This is done so that when the blocks are placed on their corresponding layers, the layer 0 object lines take on the color of the layer making it easier to identify the individual components. It also allows you to isolate all three views of a given component via the layer. Only a couple of these companies actually plot in color.
I can totally agree with you on the drafting standards. I think for theost part, a template has been set up at some point, and everyone uses it. I'm not all together certain that counts as a standard as such but it has worked for them.
But it is quite common practice to do the blocks on layer 0 so they take on the properties of the layer they are inserted into. This is structural not mechanical though, which is where I am working at the moment.
hi i would like to open on mechanical mode but everytime t opens on auto cad. i tryd going to start programs autodesk but theres no option for autocad mechanical. and i need to use constrction lines. i can only find 1 type on construction line under draw in auto cad. i need it show like how it does on mechanical were there are various options for construction lines

Engineers today are required to be on the cutting edge of design innovation. This means not only understanding engineering principles that govern the title and role, but also perfecting the toolsets needed to design and develop products.
Through this specialization, you'll learn the foundations of applying computer aided design (CAD), computer aided engineering (CAE), and manufacturing principles while developing your technical skills within Autodesk Fusion 360.
The CAD/CAM/CAE for Mechanical Engineering Specialization includes 4 multi-week courses. This includes the completion of lectures, video tutorials, practice exercises, challenge assignment, peer activities, and quizzes/assessment. You can complete the courses at your own pace!
The Autodesk Fusion 360 gallery is a great resource for design inspiration. With Fusion 360, file sharing is easy. Follow the instructions for sharing a file in Fusion 360 and share your design in the gallery.
This specialization is designed for mechanical engineering professionals working in the manufacturing industry who want to learn about generative design. Design Engineers who want to understand the manufacturing workflow from design to manufacturing using generative design technology would also benefit from this course.
When you audit a course: You'll be able to see most of the course materials for free, but you won't be able to submit assignments or get grades for your work. You won't be able to submit assignments for feedback or a grade. You also won't get a Course or Specialization Certificate.
When you enroll in the course, you get access to all of the courses in the Specialization, and you earn a certificate when you complete the work. If you only want to read and view the course content, you can audit the course for free. If you cannot afford the fee, you can apply for financial aidOpens in a new tab.
