Hi,

I've got a couple of questions. I currently have approx 7TB worth of videos from various BRUV drops and DOV surveys done over the past couple of years. At the moment they're on external USB hard drives and backed up other hard drives kept in a different location.

I'm just wondering how other groups handle backing up? I'm not that comfortable with keeping so much critical data on portable hard drives, so am looking to see if there's a better solution.

Also, slightly longer term what do other groups do with their videos from an archiving point of view?  Ultimately I'd ideally like to put the raw videos onto a digital repository like dryad or figshare where they can be permanently held with a doi and be accessible to anyone in the future who may want to analyse them. However, currently the size of the files prevents this without quite substantial costs. Is anyone currently doing this? and if so how have you managed it?

Thanks,
Dom

Hi Dom

Part of the conditions of our current funding is to archive the video footage with a national data repository.
Currently called iVEC.

Cheers
Tim
