Hi All,

I've seen the previous discussion on here about using GoPros for stereo-video. I was just wondering if anyone had any updates on whether the problem with rolling shutter is as bad as previously thought? And whether GoPros are still completely unsuitable?

I'm just starting to plan my PhD fieldwork and thinking about going down the diver operated stereo-video route, or potential BRUV to look at reef fish. I'm probably going to need to get several new stereo-camera systems made (my current system was built by Jim Seager with cannon HFS21), so I'd be really interested to know people's thoughts on what the cheapest good quality camera is that would be suitable for work on reef fish.

Thanks,
Dom

This is a really important topic - that is holding up use of stereo video by wider community.

My most recent understanding for the go-pro problem is that it is bad when either the cameras or back ground move or light changes.

And something to do with the refresh rate on the rolling shutter being not that quick - whereas the refresh rate on handy cams with CMOS chips are quicker so not so much of a prob. As CMOS cameras also have a rolling shutter.

Anyone know if the Sony action cameras are any good?
