Subject: HealthStreet in April
Greetings,
April 1-7 is National Public Health Week and the American Public Health Association has developed daily themes for improving health and safety.
Visit www.nphw.org or stop in to HealthStreet for more information!
Join us for our FREE “Actions for Healthy Living” class series every Tuesday at 5:30pm. Come let us show you how small changes in your daily routine can
account for wonderful improvements in your health with topics like: understanding nutrition labels, meal tips for the pickiest of eaters, the truth about diet and energy drinks, simple exercises you can do at home, and more! Don’t miss it!
Jumpstart your exercise routine! We are still holding the FREE Beginner’s Low Impact Exercise Class lead by Toni Hinson, RN. Join us at 2pm on every Thursday as she provides tips to help you reach your personal fitness goals! Ages 18-65 invited to participate.
Federal funding for medical research continues to decline, threatening the future health of Americans. On Monday, April 8th at 11am, there will be a Rally for Medical Research on the steps of the Carnegie Library in Washington, D.C. This rally will help raise awareness about the critical need for investment in the National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies that improve health, inspire hope, and save lives. HealthStreet is your source for information on local health research opportunities. Stop in to learn more!
The week of April 14th is Minority Cancer Awareness Week! On Tuesday 4/16 thru Thursday 4/18 the UF&SHANDS Cancer Center will host a series of informational sessions from 11am-2pm at HealthStreet. Stop in and receive important cancer resource information!
Join the UF Interdisciplinary Family Health Program (IFH)! Do you ever wonder if your health care provider knows how hard it is for you to follow his/her directions? Have you ever felt your health care provider might “see the whole picture” better if he/she just met the rest of your family? IFH is in need of teaching families to help train medical, dental, pharmacy, and other health professions students to be more compassionate, family-oriented health care providers. Stop in to HealthStreet on Monday 4/22 at 4pm and Friday 4/26 at 11am to learn more about how to be involved in this wonderful community program!
On Saturday April 27th from 10am to 3pm, we will hold the First Semi-Annual HealthStreet Health Fair! There will be many activities to assist you in taking charge of your health, including free health screenings. Activities for children will also be available! Stay tuned for additional details!
We also recognize that April is Sexually Transmitted Infection Awareness Month. FREE Information and resources, condoms and confidential HIV testing will provided daily.
It is also National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Stop in all month long to receive resources on these important topics.
Please know that HealthStreet is your community center! Note our new address: 2401 SW Archer Road – UF Building 0892. Need a ride to any of our activities? Please call us!
If you would like to host an event (that is free to the public) or have suggestions on activities you would like to see at HealthStreet, please reply to this e-mail or contact me at (352) 294-4884.
Sincerely,
Noni
