Hello all -

I am contacting you because you are listed as a representative of a neighborhood within the City of Gainesville.   The City Planning Department has recently hired a consultant to help us rewrite our Land Development Code.  Part of this effort will be to create new ‘form-based’ zoning districts for the area around downtown and the university, and ultimately it may change the zoning within your particular neighborhood, or near your neighborhood.  As a result, we are trying to involve you early in the process in order to get some preliminary feedback.

WHAT IS A FORM-BASED CODE?  This is a type of land development code that focuses more on the design of development and the relationship of buildings to the public street and to other development.  It puts less emphasis on separating residences, offices, and commercial businesses from each other.

We will be holding an introductory workshop on November 13th, 6:00-7:00 PM, in order to explain more and inform you about what this proposal means for your neighborhood and the City as a whole.  The workshop will be held at the Florida Design Center, 1st Floor of the Commerce Building, 300 East University Avenue.  We will present a draft new zoning map for the part of the City that will be included in the form-based code.

Please respond if you are planning to attend this meeting, and feel free to contact me directly with any questions.  It is important to understand that one of our primary goals in this effort is to protect the integrity of existing neighborhoods.

Thanks

Scott Wright
