ALACHUA
COUNTY, FL - Recent forecast models show Hurricane Dorian taking a more southerly track and slowing. As of now, potential for storm impacts are not forecast for the Alachua County area until Tuesday of next week. It is important to realize that this storm
is a slow moving, marathon event not a sprint. The slowdown of the system allows residents to further prepare for impacts later next week.
The County remains prepared to open shelters next week, depending on weather conditions, but there are no immediate plans for shelter openings.
Alachua County Public Schools, The University of Florida, and Santa Fe College are in the process of deciding on possible closings next week.
Alachua County will have sandbags available for residents today, August 30, until 6 p.m. and Saturday, August 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Wayside Park (11855 N.W.
US 441, Gainesville). There is a limit of 10 bags per person. Sandbags are also available in Gainesville today until 5 p.m. at Public Works (405 N.W. 39th Ave.) and Saturday from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. at Citizens Field (1400 NE 8th Ave.) while supplies last.
