Been using Tyndale's Cardo font for years on a PC. Just switched to an Apple Macbook Pro. When I try to type an iota subscript on the Mac, I get nothing.

Specifically, I type as the instructions say:

"The iota subscript is produced with the ` key (to the left of the 1 key) after the vowel;
eg: • to get ῳ type w ` "

When I do this, i end up w/ just ω   ...   with nothing added.

What am I doing incorrectly?

Thanks,
Eric Lowdermilk

Hi Eric,

I double-checked the key sequence, and it did work for me.  Just to confirm, you have installed the Tyndale Greek keyboard too, and are using it as the current input source (i.e., Greek-TH)?  I've captured a screenshot and circled the input source in red.  The document shows the omega with iota subscript, using the Cardo font.

Yes, I have the font and the keyboard installed. See screenshot below.

But, I just figured out…it seems to be limited to MICROSOFT WORD on my Mac.  Here in email, I was able to type it fine….

ῳ

Works in another app as well. So, we’ve narrowed it down a little….

Hi Eric,

I don't use MS Word anymore (just LibreOffice and Google Docs) so I can't see how it behaves for me.  I wonder if there might be an autocorrect feature in Word that interferes.

Are people checking out SIL to see what tools and workarounds they recommend?

Eric,

I'll pass along a suggestion from Mark C:  "I saw font changes in my BibleWorks days in MS Word due to Word’s default auto formatting features. For example, Word’s smart quotes would change an accent that used that key. Is this on a key that would be changed by something like that? Does an undo command after it happens fix it? That’s usually a clue it’s an auto format thing you can undo or fix. Word and Greek fonts seem to be notorious for things like this, at least that used to be the case."

I like Mark's idea about autoformat (more than mine about autocorrect).  If the undo fixes the issue after typing the w`, then you might want to turn off autoformatting to see if this takes care of things going forward.  If so, please let us know so that we can help others in the future.

Well, I have an answer…and not an answer. I went in today to apply the auto format suggestion, but before I did, I checked WORD. And of course, it works now, w/o any changes.

I then went into to look at my auto correct and auto format settings, and I cannot see that I had made any changes-- autocorrect and auto format are still on. Of course, I'm new to Macs, so I might have changed something and now cannot tell. It's been a busy few weeks with changing to the MAC.

Could have been something that just needed word to be open and closed a few times.

But thanks everyone.

Hi, I am trying to install Tyndale's Hebrew font on my M1 running Ventura 13.2.1.
The Hebrew is not HebrewTH but HebrewTHRTL.Bundle
Clicking the Language selection on top righthand shows Hebrew - QWERTY
I am getting the Microsoft Hebrew and not the Tyndale Hebrew.

Any help will be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello Tony,

May I ask what exactly you are wanting to do, and what exactly is your problem?

According to the instructions given at:
[1] Font
If you have downloaded 'Tyndale Keyboard and Unicode Font Kits' from the StepBible website, the font provided (for both Hebrew and Greek) is 'Cardo' (the file name is 'Cardo98s.ttf'). It should be installed by using the application 'Font Book' (that came with your Mac inside the Applications folder).
[2] Keyboard Layout
' HebrewTHRT.bundle' file is a keyboard layout, to be placed in:
/Library/Keyboard Layouts/
After that, you have to add the Hebrew Input Source and select HebrewTH from:
System Settings... > Keyboard > Text Input: Input Source - Edit

What you see in the 'top right hand' side of the menubar is the 'Input Source' menu. If you are seeing 'Hebrew - QWERTY', then it looks like 'HebrewTHRTL.bundle' has not been installed or not selected, because I can see the same 'Hebrew - QWERTY' in my menu, and I have NOT installed Tyndale Hebrew Keyboard Layout. (But I can type Hebrew text using what came with macOS and I am happy with that.)

When you say "I am getting the Microsoft Hebrew and not the Tyndale Hebrew", what do you mean? If it's about the font, all you have to do is to select a font when you are typing. If you have installed Cardo, it should be available from the font menu in your word-processor...?

Thank you Megumi,
I had both Hebrew -QWERTY and HebrewTHRTL and was using the wrong one. Using HebrewTHRTL
fixed that. I had left line space as1.0 and was not getting the descenders for the final form nor the  vowels. Changing spacing to 2.0 fixed.that so I'm all good now. Thanks again.

Crosswire has a bunch of Utils explained at https://wiki.crosswire.org/DevTools:Modules
These include mod2imp that extracts the text, and imp2mod which rebuilds it.
This works fine if the Bible has no formatting such as section headings or crossRefs etc.
However, if you find errors, it is best to use their reporting mechanism, so it can be fixed properly
and the new version can be put in the public repositories. Report errors at

Hope this helps.
