Folks,

As long as someone mentioned fussy hoyas--could you all perhaps start listing the fussy ones--I am rather a beginner and really don't want to waste money ordering hoyas that will not survive. I tend to like cultivars with either interesting foliage or spectacular flowers (as if some have something other than). Any suggestions would be appreciated on either front...picky or wonderful...if wonderful--EASY wonderful...grin!

Excited about my first group order!

Thanks to all,

Jim

I've been growing hoyas now for about 8 years and haven't found too
many that are fussy. At least not for me anyway. Here's a few that I
have found to be a bit fussy to grow:::::::::

hypolasia--dennisii--coriacea--praetorii--

these may be easy ones for others to grow but I have had issues with
all of the ones listed above.

Jim, what environment are you growing in? More plants are going to be
happy in a greenhouse, the more humidity the better, and with hoyas,
good light is important.
Not to say that people don't have great luck growing in their living
room, but the more you can approximate their native environment, the
better.

I can't really say which varieties are best, but I can say that the
ones I keep away from heating and air conditioning and in very bright
places do much better. Also, the thinner leafed hoyas don't seem to
do as well in my home. I usually lose them eventually, the only one I
have right now is CV Iris Marie, and it is doing good with very little
attention (like most of my plants)

If you are looking for hardier plants, and the ones that will give you
early pay off with flowers, then offhand I would say to definitely
include obovata, cinnamomfolia, pubicalyx, nummularioides, and fungii
in your order. They will grow quickly, be pretty robust, and bloom in
less than a decade!
