Dear Dr. Furrer,

I am reaching out to share that the Built Brick by Brik Legacy Scholarship Year 2 Application, opens May 1st. Just a reminder, we, the family of Benjamin "Brik" Kraft, established the scholarship to support students pursuing degrees in engineering at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); information about "Brik" is included below.

🎓 Scholarship Snapshot:
  1. Eligibility: Juniors and Seniors majoring in engineering at an HBCU (all interested students should apply)
  2. Award Amount: at least $2,500 (multiple awards available)
  3. Criteria: Demonstrated financial need, academic and leadership promise, connection and/or interest in working in the Caribbean, African or African Diaspora, and a personal statement (this scholarship IS available to international students)
  4. Application Deadline: June 15, 2026, at 11:59pm

This scholarship was created in the spirit of legacy, empowerment, and the continued elevation of Black excellence in the engineering field. We know HBCUs are essential in cultivating this next generation of innovators, builders, and leaders.

I have attached a flyer for your convenience. If you would like social media post copy or additional materials to help spread the word, I’d be more than happy to provide them.

In Year 1 we received 59 applications and we awarded 10 students from 4 HBCUs!

Thank you in advance for helping us with Year 2!

With gratitude, I am Brik’s sister,

GUILEINE F. KRAFT, PhD, LCSW-C

PS: Brief Bio on Benjamin ‘Brik’ Kraft’s

Benjamin "Brik" Kraft, was an Electrical Engineering graduate of North Carolina A&T State University (NCA&T). Born in the US, Brik spent his early childhood in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti and adolescence in Miami, Florida. While in Miami, Brik discovered his propensity and sheer talent for disassembling and reassembling electronic devices. After graduation from NCA&T, he was highly recruited to work at NASA in Greenbelt, Maryland, during which he worked on the cutting edge of fiber optics. Upon moving back to Haiti, Brik established, VuTech, a full service engineering company that provided design, installation, and technical support services in Haiti. Brik's VuTech specialized in energy, lighting, and communications systems, mentoring, and was also called upon to solve technically and logistically challenging projects. The VuTech team prided itself in their agility, technical expertise, work ethic, and on-going relationships with clients. Ultimately, VuTech planned, organized, and executed projects all over the country and later expand throughout the Caribbean and African Diaspora and potentially, Africa.
