NASA'S 2024 RASC-AL COMPETITION

 

NASA's Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts – Academic Linkage (RASC-AL) Competition is seeking collegiate teams to develop new concepts that leverage innovation to improve our ability to operate on the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

 

 

2024 RASC-AL COMPETITION THEMES

 

Long Duration Mars Simulation at the Moon

Develop an architecture for a long duration simulation of a human mission to Mars conducted at the Moon.

 

Sustained Lunar Evolution

Develop an architecture for evolving human presence on the Moon to expand available services and commodities.

 

AI-Powered Self-Replicating Probes – an Evolutionary Approach

Develop a concept for an autonomous spacecraft that enhances itself via resources it gathers as it visits multiple low gravity bodies in the solar system.

 

Large Scale Lunar Crater Prospector

Develop a concept for a prospecting rover that can operate for long durations in craters at the lunar south pole.

and/or SHARE this email with faculty and student groups who may be interested in participating!

 

 

 

Submissions from ALL academic levels and majors are highly encouraged and anticipated from accredited U.S.-based colleges and universities, including Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs).

 

In alignment with NASA’s international partnership priorities, RASC-AL Competition Teams from colleges and universities based in the United States are encouraged to work with international universities from any of the countries who have signed the Artemis Accords.

 

Up to 14 finalist teams will be selected to receive a $6,500 stipend to more fully develop their concepts and present them to a panel of NASA and industry judges in a competitive design review at the 2024 RASC-AL Competition Forum held in Cocoa Beach, Florida on June 10 - 12, 2024.

October 11, 2023: Notice of Intent (NOI) Submission Deadline

October 25, 2023: Q&A Session for Interested Teams

March 7, 2024: Proposal and Video Submission Deadline

April 5, 2024: Teams Notified of Selection Status

May 9, 2024: Deadline for Forum Registration and Payment

May 9, 2024: Deadline for Hotel Reservations at RASC-AL Group Rate

May 27, 2024: Technical Paper Submission Deadline

June 8, 2024: Presentation Chart Deck and Digital Poster File Submission Deadline

June 10-12, 2024: 2024 RASC-AL Competition Forum in Cocoa Beach, Florida

 

 

 

The RASC-AL Competition is sponsored by the Moon to Mars Architecture Development Office within the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate (ESDMD) at NASA Headquarters, and by the Space Mission Analysis Branch (SMAB) at NASA’s Langley Research Center (LaRC).
