When HBO launched a streaming app for its cable customers called HBO Go in 2010, twentysomethings passed around the logins of their cable-subscribing parents, uncles, grandparents, and step-siblings like a case of mono in a freshman dorm. But in the nine years since, paying millennials have greased the rise of the streaming era as the number of popular platform-only shows boomed, creating a new kind of account-sharing behavior: streaming-curious baby boomers mooching Netflix, Hulu, Prime, and other subscription passwords off their kids.
I have a Sharp Roku TV and it keeps dropping whatever I'm watching and switching to the Netflix login screen every 5 minutes or so. I'll be watching a movie on Amazon Prime or HBO and the screen will just go black, and switch over to Netflix. I went to the main menu and checked for the most recent software update, and it's up-to-date, so I'm not sure how else I can fix this. Please help. Thanks!
This would appear to be a remote issue. Please contact your TV's manufacturer directly to report this issue and request additional support. Each Roku TV manufacturer provides direct support and warranty services for their products running the Roku OS.
For my specific issue I finally have an answer. My son is pushing the "cast" button on his Ipad. It had nothing to do with the Roku, remote or TV and everything to do with casting. My son has low vision and hits the wrong icon when trying to perform a search.
There is something wrong - i am watching prime and it keeps switching back to netflix and my son gets logged out from Netflix on the Ipad whenever this happens. Very annoying - it happens often. This seems to be a bug Roku needs to fix it.
My TCL Roku keep switching to HBO this is ridiculous! TV only a year old to be having issues. I need some answers now! I would not be purchasing another TCL tv wouldn't be recommended to family members or friends.
Hi There - I just set up a AC1900 Wireless MU-MIMO Gigabit Router Archer A9 (which for some reason isnt an option from the model list up there) and it is lovely - my phone, tablet, computer, google home devices are all working great. However, netflix on my TCL smart TV won't work. The TV itself is connected and other channels (such as amazon prime) work. Netflix keeps giving me error codes tvq-st-103 and tvq-st-131, saying it can't connect to the network. I can watch netflix on my other devices. I've tried the obvious things like restarting the network by unplugging everything and then plugging back in one at a time, resetting the netflix login, returning the TV to factory settings... It's gotta be something with the router but I can't figure out what. Anyone here have any smart ideas?
You can try to factory default the router by holding the reset for 15 seconds. When the router is back up connect to the default Wi-Fi and test the connection. By default the router can not block specific traffic, but there might have been something adjusted which defaulting will clear out.
If the issue still happens it would be best to contact Netflix to see if there are any settings to adjust or to try since streaming services work with the router from other companies as other devices.
There could be regional differences affecting your connection. We recommend creating a thread on our global community. community.tp-link.com/en. This community, community.tp-link.com/us is only able to assist customers in the U.S. While issues may seem to be the same issue and in somecases they are its always best to interact with the team best able to handle your particular concerns.
Because i am also a consumer i do get annoyed when companies say this but in this case the first thing to do is reach out to the manufacture of the TV and troubleshoot their device first. This is because since its the only device having issues the troubleshooting would want to begin at the client and not the router. If more devices were having the same issue then it would be one thing but with just one experiancing this issue that is where you would want to start.
Whether it's your adult child, your ex-partner or a friend who benefited from your generosity, you may have allowed someone outside your home to continue using your Netflix account at some point. However, since Netflix has confirmed that it will begin charging accounts that share passwords early next year, now might be a good time to make a change.
If that person has their profile on your account, you can transfer it to their new account and delete it from yours. However, if they don't have a profile or simply use your login information to keep watching Netflix without paying, you can kick them off using a new feature in your account settings.
This week, Netflix announced it had launched a new feature in Account Settings called Managing Access and Devices. The purpose of this tool, the company says, is to log yourself out of devices you may have used while traveling, staying in hotels or visiting family and friends. However, it can also be used to boot an unauthorized user from your Netflix account.
To access this feature, sign in to Netflix in a browser on a computer, phone or tablet and select your profile. Then, hover over the downward-facing arrow icon in the upper-right corner and choose Account. Finally, go to the Security & Privacy section on your Account page and choose Manage access and devices. It may have a blue New box on the left side of the text.
You can see all active logins on your Netflix account on this page. Each will display the user, device, date and time and a relative location. Choose Sign Out on any login you want to kick off, and Netflix will remove its access.
Signing out of a session will stop that device from accessing your Netflix account. However, if the person using it knows your login information, they can sign right back in. In this case, you'll still need to change your password.
To reset your password by email or text, go to netflix.com/loginhelp in a browser window. Choose the option you want to use and follow the steps to reset your password. You may need to log back in on the device you used to change the password.
A phishing site was found using a spoofed Netflix page to harvest account information, credit card credentials, and other personally identifiable information (PII), according to a twitter post by PartnerRe Information Security Analyst Andrea Palmieri. We looked into the malicious site, hxxp://secure-up-log.com/netflix/, to learn more about the operation and found that the sites have geolocation features.
Over the past few, we have seen other phishing campaigns that similarly use Netflix as bait; some threats even reference the Covid-19 outbreak at the same time. As people are spending time in quarantine due to coronavirus pandemic, video streaming platforms such as Netflix have become one of the most popular means to pass the time. Cybercriminals are taking advantage of this by using these apps to deceive unwitting users for phishing and other social engineering schemes.
Phishing sites seek to harvest sensitive information from victims. As they copy the user interface and spoof the website names, these malicious pages can be tricky to tell apart from legitimate log in sites. Below are some ways to avoid these threats:
