This document covers the language specific requirements for U.S. English. Please make sure to also review the General Requirements section and related guidelines for comprehensive instructions surrounding timed text deliveries to Netflix.

I. Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH)
This section applies to subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing created (i.e. intralingual subtitles). For subtitles for non-English language content, please see Section II

Text in each line in a dual speaker subtitle must be a contained sentence and should not carry into the preceding or subsequent subtitle. Creating shorter sentences and timing appropriately helps to accommodate this.

This isn't as clearly documented as it probably should be. I have a Netflix account. I have an eligible T-Mobile plan for "Netflix on Us". What is the entire process, soup to nuts, on 1) enabling this feature on T-Mobile, and 2) updating my existing Netflix account to that I get the $8.99 credit from T-Mobile, per month.

These directions don't appear to be correct. I've tried to click "Manage Netflix" on my cell and on my computer with IE and with Chrome. It just keeps taking me to a screen that doesn't align with the directions. Nowhere can I log into my existing Netflix account. Are these instructions still accurate?

Apple says in the very first sentence on the very first page of the first chapter of their of their Apple TV 2 "Setup Guide" that you can watch streaming content from Netflix and then NEVER MENTIONS NETFLIX AGAIN! How disingenuous is that?!? I tried at the iTunes Store and they'll sell you aps but they won't help you actually stream movies from Netflix.

Now I could go to Apple Support except that I received my Apple TV 2 as a present and so I don't have the purchase date (it is after the 90 days anyway even though I haven't hooked it up yet) so they just keep sending me into a never-ending FU loop. Right now I'm so angry that I don't think that I will ever buy another Apple product again. gonna be tough though since I have an iMac, an Airbook, an iPhone 4, an iPhone 3GS, two iPods, and TWO Airport Extremes... So here I am trying to see if you folks can help me out.

What is your problem or question? Install the ATV as per the simple instructions, Netflix is a menu choice under the Internet settings once you have the device set up and connected to the Internet. Of course you have to have a Netflix account, you can't expect it to be free? You also have to have Internet access, which also isn't up to Apple to provide for you.

Thank you for your comments. I, of course do have a Netflix account and high speed Internet as well. What I DON'T have is any helpful information from Apple, which, I believe, IS up to Apple to provide for me. So your suggestion that I install the Apple TV is my only recourse at this time however, I generally prefer to know what I am doing before I dive in and possibly screw something up or go around in circles as Apple would seem to its customers do in this case.

Seriously, you feel that it is up to Apple to show you how to type your Netflix username and password into the Apple TV 2? Those are the only steps necessary to setup Netflix on the Apple TV. You are needlessly overcomplicating a painless and easy to use product. I half wonder if you are trolling?! Are you?

By the iTunes Store, do you mean the app store? Are you somehow thinking that you need to download and install Netflix on the Apple TV? If this is the case, you can be comforted by the fact that the Netflix functionality is pre-installed on the Apple Tv and all that is necessary of you is to input your Netflix username and password into the Apple TV after clicking on the pre-existing "Netflix" button in the interface. I apologize for asking if you were a troll. I now see that you were just confused. Really, you should just try hooking the Apple TV up to your set. The setup instructions are obvious and spelled out in detail like most Apple products.

I have recently bought an apple tv so that I can stream from my laptop or iphone to my television. I am trying to add netflix to my apple tv but I can't find out how. You mention the internet function on the apple tv but mine has not got this option on it. where would I find this? I would really appreciate assistance in this as the whole purpose in buying this is to stream films from netflix.

Somewhat confused by your question here. Have you already installed and set up your TV as described in the TV 3rd Generation Setup Manual? If so, and your main iTunes/Home Sharing computer platform is properly connected to the Internet, then your TV should already have an Internet connection via the wired or wireless network you used to set up the TV device. At this point it is merely a question of selecting the Netfix app in the bottom half of your main TV menu and signing in to your Netflix account to access Netflix content streamed via the Internet.

Thank you for your advice but the trouble is even though the apple tv has been installed and wifi connected and working the netflix icon is not there at the bottom half of my tv menu. Do you have any ideas how I can add netflix to my apple tv?

I don't have tv firmware update under the settings menu and I have been to the set manual I have tried youtube and I can't find the solution anywhere. Surely there must be some way to add things like netflix or lovefilm on this.

At this point you can select the "About" option to check to see what version of IOS is installed on your devices. I.e., you probably want the latest software versions available/compatible for both iTunes and your TV device. Here is what I am currently running on my entertainment system device...

If the software is not up to data and you have not automatically received notification of the availability of newer software, then you can go back to the "General" memu as depicted above and select the "Update Software" option to manually check for a firmware (non-volatile software) update which may fix your problem. If this does not fix your problem, I would next try forcing a cold reboot by using the "General > Restart" menu option or simply unplugging and re-plugging in the device.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the app, cleared the cache data and all data on the app and the chromecast, reset the wifi router and connection, unplugged the power from the chromecast and the wifi router, reset the app through netflix on the chromecast and finally did a full system reset of the chromecast. Unfortuntely this was all witout success and would like to find out if anyone can help me fix the problem.

The Netflix error code NW-2-5 on your Chromecast with Google TV indicates a connection issue between the Chromecast and Netflix servers. You've done a great job trying various troubleshooting steps, so let's explore some additional options:

By trying these additional steps and potentially reaching out to Netflix support, you should hopefully be able to resolve the NW-2-5 error and get your Netflix app working smoothly on your Chromecast with Google TV.

I installed on a Pixel 6a over the weekend. CLI install instructions were perfection, process went well with no issues.
I've installed the Play Store app, but the Netflix app appears to think it is not compatible with my device. Is this expected?
Thanks for the great work! GOS is a great alternative to stock Android.

The above link is for a 'lite' version, GrapheneOS works with the 'full fat' version of the Netflix app this is a Play Store listing issue only. Grab the Netflix app via Aurora store as d4f2 and retired-mod-account suggest.

On the surface, it may seem as though Netflix would be a viable option for classroom use. However, Netflix works differently due to the terms of their user agreement. This agreement states that Netflix "and any content viewed through our service are for your personal and non-commercial use only and may not be shared with individuals beyond your household ... You agree not to use the service for public performances" (see Netflix's Terms of Use). Any third-party agreements, such as Netflix's, supersede US copyright law exemptions, such as those for classroom or teaching activities cited above. Therefore, we generally do not endorse use of Netflix in classrooms due to the potential for copyright violations.

Netflix is unique, however, in that they do allow educational screenings of a number of their Netflix Original documentaries - a collection of over 100 titles! See the instructions below for how to identify if a Netflix Original documentary is eligible for an educational screening.
