FYI (I know R isn't so popular with most users of this list, but still...). Apparently, Hastie and Tibshirani are also presenting an online course on OpenEdX covering the material (started 21 Jan) - see http://online.stanford.edu/course/statistical-learning-winter-2014 .

A new book, An introduction to statistical learning - with applications in R
(2013), by James, Witten, Hastie and Tibshirani, has recently seen the light
of day. It “is aimed for upper level undergraduate students, masters students
and Ph.D. students in the non-mathematical sciences”, and therefore presents
the statistical methods in a non-technical way with R code and instructions on
use.
