On media players I know, "⏸" is the
command for "Pause; Interruption."
"▶" is "Normal run; Normal speed."
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_control_symbols>.

Stellarium seems to reverse this custom.
This is confusing.

On a Remote Control Start/Pause and Speed are
part of the Date/Time control.  This seems
more natural than having them separate in the
bottom toolbar.

[     0.400][INFO] [ This is Stellarium 26.1+ (v26.1.160-309a615 [stellarium-next]) - https://stellarium.org/ ]
[     0.401][INFO] Operating System: macOS Sequoia (15.7.7)

If I run the Remote Control either on Firefox on the same
desktop or on an iPhone, changing the time on the remote
causes the date or time on the Remote to thrash wildly;
the main Stellarium display is unaffected.

This misbehavior does not occur if I run Stellarium and
the Remote on windows.

Stellarium's display of this button is "state display", not "promise about what happens if I press this button". By this we also save one precious button space. Is has been like that since before 2009, so users got used to it. Likewise, Stellarium's time control is not an ordinary remote control. You can run it without opening the time control dialog, time-drag the sky interactively etc.
I know about some quirks of the RC which however usually don't impede operation too much. It is currently undergoing a major revision, let's see how this turns out.
