Hi,

I need help.

Every time I get to a dark sky site, with no Wi-Fi, I want to enter the latitude and longitude, manually.

Bit it won't stick.  I type it in very carefully, along with a name of the new site, but it keeps reverting back to some other strange location.

The only way I can get close is by dragging that little arrow over the tiny map and getting it somewhat close, but not the location I want to enter.

Any help is appreciated.

Steve

By default Stellarium tries to guess location from your IP address. When you are offline, it will load your last-set location, or Paris, if nothing is available.

The usual process should be disabling network-based location lookup, setting the coordinates (typing numbers or e.g. mousewheel while cursor is inside the arcminutes also works nicely), then typing a name, selecting region, timezone etc., then pressing "Add to list" to add the location to the user part of the location database. Then the location name becomes available in the stored list of locations.
Optionally then activate "Use current location as default".

Hi Georg,
Thanks for the rapid response.
It always stars me off somewhere in the Western United States, where I have ever been.  See attached.
But I found the problem.  If you have entered a name and say "add to list" BEFORE entering the correct location, it will not work
You have to enter the lat-long FIRST and then type the name.  That is, you cannot "edit" a location once it is added to the list.
You have to delete from the list and start over with the lat-long before typing in the name and adding to list.
And "Region" must be checked too, or it will not save it.
At least I think that is it.
Thanks!
