There is a historical connection. Both projects were founded by Fabien, but the open-source desktop version is now further developed by others. Both projects share principal ideas and some data, but no code. The desktop version is better for historical (more accurate) and cultural aspects (archaeoastronomical extras) of astronomy, while the smartphone app better fits in your pocket.
