Dear Mr. Wolf,

While working with the JSON files in Stellarium’s  directory, I came across a question that is quite important for my current projects.
It appears possible to generate colored frames or markers in the UI using attributes such as . However, as far as I can tell, this functionality is not currently supported by default for nebulae objects.

May I ask for your guidance on this point:

Is this type of visual highlighting (e.g., colored markers or frames) supported for nebulae objects in the current or upcoming versions of Stellarium?
If not, are there plugins or planned extensions that might enable such functionality?
A brief response would be greatly appreciated, as I would like to integrate systematic visual coding of deep-sky objects (for example, through colored frames) into my Stellarium work.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Sincerely,
Holger

DSO tab in View window - "Configure colors of markers" (see a screenshot)

All of these colors may be saving in config.ini file (see appendix in Stellarium User Guide for details)

If not, are there plugins or planned extensions that might enable such functionality?
A brief response would be greatly appreciated, as I would like to integrate systematic visual coding of deep-sky objects (for example, through colored frames) into my Stellarium work.

Hi Mr. Wolf,

Adding DSOs basically works for me. Thanks to Bing Copilot, I can place Bloom’s Nebula and the AGN Cluster Bubbles right where they belong—over the Swan’s wing and the Giraffe’s tongue tip. Both placements amuse me enough that today I don’t mind overlooking the fact that I can’t yet implement frames for my custom objects. Neither Copilot nor I are able to code that part.

Still, it’s been both entertaining and educational for Hugo. Many thanks for such a great app.

Best regards, Holger
