I have:
[     0.354][INFO]  -------------------------------
[     0.354][INFO] [ This is Stellarium 26.1 (v26.1.0) - https://stellarium.org/
[     0.354][INFO] [ Copyright (C) 2000-2026 Stellarium Developers
[     0.354][INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------
[     0.354][INFO] 2026-06-05T07:37:02
[     0.354][INFO] Operating System: macOS Sequoia (15.7.7)
[     0.354][INFO] Platform: cocoa
[     0.354][INFO] Compiled using AppleClang 21.0.0.21000099
[     0.354][INFO] Qt runtime version: 6.9.3
[     0.354][INFO] Qt compilation version: 6.9.3

In guide.pdf:
4.3.6 The Speech Tab
    ...
3This fully depends on capabilities of the operating system and
is not available for builds/platforms with Qt version less than 6.4.

So my version should be OK.

I'll attach a screenshot of Settings->Speech.
(where are rhese saved?  config.ini or elsewhere?)

The "Test text" is muddled but intelligible.
If I copy/paste from e.g. Help->Log to "Test text"
Stellarium will "say" the pasted text so Stellarium
apparently supports the OS speech interface.

My eyesight is very bad; I need all the help
I can get.  Copy/paste is cumbersome.  Would it
be possible to provide a shortcut key to "speak"
selected text more directly as some but not all
application do.?  The convention is "option esc".

Dear Gil,
actually your question some time ago made me start investigating adding some TTS support, although I am not on a path to convert all GUIs to speech.
In the object information selection dialog there is a second column for which object details should be read out when pressing Shift+R when an object is selected.
By now, the Landscape and Skylore texts can be output by pressing the respective "Play" button (no hotkey, though).

Settings are as usual in config.ini, group "speech". Selected info in group custom_selected_info.
HTH, G.

Thanks.  I hadn't noticed that.

Thanks for that, too.

I find no mention of group "speech" in config.ini.  Can you show
an example, please.

Configuration->Save settings does not save my speech settings.  I must'
enter them again each time I launch Stellarium.
I call that a bug.

And the defaults are far from optimal.  Loudness too low.

In the Speech menu, the labels are too far from the buttons.
Misleading, especially because I must zoom in so far.  See screenshot.
