Hello everyone.

Let me start apologizing for a question which is probably too naive, but my experience is just as limited.  Please bear with me.

I am trying to undertand how to add/import bookmarks.  Basically I wanted to observe through Stellarium a recent lunar eclipse which occurred at my present location (Brazil).
However, as it did not show, I poked around the net and found that it is possible through the use of bookmarks.  But I just could not find any help regarding where to find such bookmarks, or how to create them, from where to import them, etc.

If there is anybody patient enough willing to walk me through I would really appreciate it.

Thank you and clear skies.

Alt+B, but bookmarks will not help you by itself, because this is just bookmarks.

Please share your coordinates to check the visibility of the lunar eclipse.

Hello Marco,

Bookmarks are a way to store all sorts of objects that are visible in Stellarium. It's not common to find bookmarks on the Internet, but it is possible.

Normally you select an object in Stellarium, then add it as a bookmark (alt-b to open bookmark dialog, then press "Add bookmark"). In case you also want to record time and / or position, check the checkboxes "Add date and time" (especially when you want to record the time of occultation)  and "Add location".

As I cannot add file attachments, I'll print out the content of a bookmark file here:

{
    "bookmarks": {
        "{673963a9-a7d7-48f7-b85e-f674547f942c}": {
            "fov": 1.86735629605e-312,
            "jd": "2459360.961196",
            "location": "-23.76, -50.04",
            "name": "Moon",
            "nameI18n": "Maan"
        },
        "{b3589d38-8fa6-43ca-af7c-452130fe2fe3}": {
            "fov": 1.65515786068e-312,
            "jd": "2459375.919530",
            "location": "Gent, Belgium",
            "name": "Moon",
            "nameI18n": "Maan"
        }
    }
}

Just save it in some file such as "my-eclipse-bookmarks.json" and Import bookmarks from the bookmark dialog.

Please see also 3.5 of the Stellarium User Guide. (https://github.com/Stellarium/stellarium/releases)

Alexander and Alex,

thank you much for your response.

I guess one needs to know jscript in order to take true advantage of this feature.  I'll try fiddling around with Alex's example file.

In answer to Alexander, my coordinates are Lat S 22° 54' 20.01", Lon W 139° 23' 54.59" , city of Campinas, state of São Paulo (Brazil).

Thank you again for your attention.

Regards,

Marco

But for this location the lunar eclipse was invisible because it was happening under the horizon. You may hide the ground and observe the eclipse.

Yes, it's true Alexander, but I wanted to see Stellarium functioning for an eclipse in real time.

Thanks.

Hello Marco,

You don't need to know "jscript" or anything. Just copy-paste the text in a file and import it in bookmarks. that file was just meant to show you an unusual example how to share bookmarks, but that is NOT commonly done. so It's just to use as an example of importing bookmarks.

What you must do is make sure your location is well defined in Stellarium, and then go to May 26 and look at the moon.
