Hi,

Thank you for the new Nebula Textures plugin, a really great addition. Very easy to use.

I was wondering if there was anyway to specify using a local version of astrometry.net. In order to speed up the process. I took a look in config.ini and couldn't see any configuration I could set.

If it isn't possible, I was hoping it could be added as a feature request. Another great candidate for plate solving would be ASTAP. Cross platform and fast.

Thank you again for adding another great feature.

Pete

I just checked and saw it is indeed possible to install locally. Nice for desert locations. But may not be too widespread:  "Windows: it should work in WSL. Any more detailed reports would be welcome." So, the best workflow for those who cannot wait: Find out how, change Stellarium's sources, document (write clear instructions), and PR us. And remain available for later maintenance!

Hi guys,

Thank you, I will raise a feature request.

As you say Georg, not sure how many people have ansvr (https://adgsoftware.com/ansvr/) installed locally. I use it with AstroImageJ. My thought was that adapting the code to use a local version of the same system, would be easier than coding for another offline solution, such as ASTAP.

Many thanks.

Ah, good start. That means, the plugin GUI should just have config options for astrometry.net-clone-URL, portnumber and credentials? Can be useful to add indeed. I'm starting to get curious about these "index files", how large can they get? In any case, this is a "local installation of the solver", and as user we should assume that "the 3rd-party solution works".
