Stellar Smart Contract Support

Hello,

Will transactions of the type documented here: https://www.stellar.org/developers/guides/walkthroughs/stellar-smart-contracts.html#implementation still be supported on the platform even if the use case advertisement goes away?

I'm looking to start a new project, and don't want to begin on deprecated tech. My idea involves a fairly simple escrow-type series of txs as outlined in that post.
