Hello,
Please respond to this email only if you object to our plans.
So, Greg and I were the only people at the meeting. I realise we should have finished as a steering group, but I do feel it is our responsibility to try and figure out how Young FoE goes forward.
We discussed the fact that we had no nominations for steering group positions, and why this might be.
We came up with some suggestions on how Young FoE could go forward, and decided we should ask our members (that includes us!). We have a decent number of people who have signed up as members now, and there is no way Young FoE can go forward without some support. We came up with some suggestions on what could happen and will offer them as suggestions in personalised emails to each member, but asking them for any other ideas they have as well.
The ideas were:
1) Re-open nominations, AND contact individually those who have expressed interest e.g. are in the Engaging Young People Project group, came to the AGM or are in a working group currently.
2) Make the 'Engaging Young People Project' the only thing Young FoE does (and perhaps subsume the comms group if they are happy with that?).
3) Make Young FoE a series of Assemblies (4 times a year) with perhaps Tim/replacement organising them.
We have to check with Tim about some details. Obviously, if he/his replacement cannot run the assemblies then we cannot offer this as an option. Some action points were as follows:
AP: Greg: email Tim and check nominations (whether they actually work!).
AP: Greg: Ask Tim about whether he'd/other FoE coordinator run YFoE assembleys.
AP: Alice: Draft email to members.
AP: Alice: Check with other steering group members about process.
AP: Alice + Greg: Send out email to members (individually) re future of YFoE - options + ask for suggestions.
We're not asking you for your opinions on the above options now (you can give them when we send the email out - you are members too!). We are asking if anyone disagrees with the process of going forward.
Please respond if you think we shouldn't do the following:
- Email our members personally and ask them what they think should happen (offering the above suggestions)
- Do what they think is best (this will probably be whatever the most popular suggestion is, or whichever one has the most people who will actually do it).
- If the nominations are re-opened and we still get no steering group, we will go to the next best option.
If no-one responds, I suggest we go for option 2 as there seems to be at least active members in this area who can carry things forward.
Thanks,
Alice
