Tonight's meeting (March 18) will be at the Karma Cafe in old Folsom
from 6:30 to 9:30.

We will be discussing the experiences of several members at the Nova
Albion Exhibiiton.

Please bring your "new" costumes and gadgets to share.

Doug Hack will be giving the first in a series of mini-demonstrations
on leatherworking. Tonight's subject is intro to the varieties of
leather and where to acquire leather supplies and tools.

We will be starting to schedule our mini-demonstrations in advance.
Please volunteer to demonstrate.

We will also be discussing future "special" events (anything beyond a
regular meeting format) that we want to put together or attend as a
group, and starting to build a calendar of them. (Please check our
Northern California Steampunk event calendar on the home page to see
what Nor Cal events are already scheduled.)

Next week's meeting will be at Fanny Ann's in Old Sacramento from 6:30
to 9:30.

Unless someone has a better idea, Doug Hack will present the second
leather working demo: Cutting, punching and riveting leather.

Announcements from our March 18th meeting:

The Sacramento Tweed ride will be March 28th. Wear your classic wool
tweed and ride an old-style bicycle with like-minded folks.

On Sunday, April 28th we will "invade" the California state Railroad
Museum

On the Second Saturday in September we will have a steamtrain
excursion from Carson City to Virginia City.

We are planning a Spring picnic (badmiton, croquet!)

Vernian Process is playing in Sacramento on Thursday April 29th - We
will change our meeting location and time to attend.

At our March 25th meeting at Fanny Ann's Doug will do Part Two of the
leather working demo: How to cut leather without cutting yourself.
Punching holes in leather and setting rivets, eyelets, snaps and
grommets.

Correction: Our Railroad Museum trip is Sunday April 25th.

The second part of the leatherwork demo is postponed to a future date
(Doug is sick).

Our next meeting is at the Karma Cafe in old Folsom. That is April
Fool's Day so think of something fun and whimisical to entertain the
group with.

Re-posted from Facebook:

We, as a group, have been cordially invited to the first ever Sac
Steam Ball. This is, fortuitously, occurring on a Thursday (which is
our regular meeting night). The proprietor of this event, Miguel,
attended our last meeting to promote the ball. If he has enough
interest, he wants to make it a monthly event!

Please try to attend and bring a friend. Admission is only $5, and
there will be vendors and a costume contest!

We will meet at Fanny Ann's Saloon before the concert. I will be
there around 7pm. Show up at your leisure, and we can walk to the
ball from there.

The ball will be at Club Necropolis at 1023 Front Street in Old Sac.
Doors will open at 9pm.

Regards,
Macabre

Gracious Lady Beatrix,

We (and, yes, I am referring to the Royal "we") eagerly look forward
to your presence at the ball, as you tend to light up a room when you
enter, whilst I perpetually darken it. Please remember to wear your
finest. I would sincerely like for someone from our own society to
win that costume contest.

there.

All,

Please don't forget about our upcoming trip to Railroad Museum:

This will be our next special event! On Sunday, April 25th, the
members and friends (everyone) of the Sacramento Steampunk Society
will meet in costume (highly encouraged) and tour the State Railroad
Museum and the adjacent Huntington, Hopkins hardware store museum. The
number and quality of locomotives and railcars at this site is
overwhelming. Makers will enjoy the hardware store, which combines
exhibits with the opportunity to purchase old style hardware items.
Because the Hardware store closes an hour before the train museum, we
will begin our tour there.
At 5 PM after the rail museum closes we will ajourn to the nearby
historic Delta King paddlewheel river boat for dinner, drinks and
socialization.
Admission for the museum: $9 adults; $4 youths ages 6-17; children
ages 5 and under are free.

Also, there is a living history fair going on simultaneously in Old
Sac. We will be able to visit this during our downtime. One of our
very own members will be working this. It sounds like it will be a
great deal of fun. We look forward to seeing many of you at this
event. We will meet in front of the Railroad Museum at 1:30pm.

I plan to be there to capture our group! If I think something looks
especialy stunning I will request a release. Of course I will share
images for marketing of the group and I will post to flickr and some
on Facebook.

News update on this Sunday's outing to Old Town, Huntington Hopkins
Hardware Store, Railroad Museum and the Delta King!
There is no admission charge to the Huntington Hopkins Hardware Store
which is adjacent to Railroad Museum (towards the river from the
Museum entrance). We will meet at 1:30 in the hardware store and
gather up there before moving to the ticket window of the Museum as a
group about 2:00. There is a small group discount available if we all
line up together ($8 instead of $9). Once in the Museum we will
wander as things individually interest us, but I encourage everyone to
return to the Museum Theater for the 3PM showing of a history film.
There are lots of steamy trains in the museum to look at, and the
ticket includes admission to the separate rail car barn near the
river. The museum closes at 5PM at which time we will ajourn to the
nearby Delta King river boat pilothouse for drinks, food and
socializing.

Since there are so many attractions in Old Town and there is a living
history fair that day, you may want to come early and explore that
before meeting with the group at 1:30.

On Thursday, April 29th we will have a special combination meeting and
outing:

This is our regular weekly meeting night and we will meet at the usual
time at Fanny Ann's in old Sacramento. Costumes are always
encouraged. The meeting will be shorter (or longer) as we will leave
Fanny Ann's before 9PM to walk over to Club Necropolis to see, hear,
and dance to Vernian Process at the Sac Steam Ball.

Vernian Process is a Bay Area steamy band and I believe this will be
their first appearance in Sacramento. It is definitely the first
Steampunk Music/Club event in Sacramento EVER!! We are encouraging
all Nor Cal Steamers to support this event, so that there will be more
of them.

Sac Steam Ball: Sacramento's ONE & ONLY steampunk event! The place to
be for all your streampunk needs featuring musical performances by the
Vernian Process & Vegabondage. I have an assortment of vendors of art,
clothes, accessories and curiousities... come down underground if you
dare to delve deeper into an alternaive collusion of past and present.
Hope to see you all there!

This event is 21+ and is only 5 dollars top get in
doors open at 9 or earlier. Event ends at 1 AM.

The best way to get updates on our meetings and special events is to
join our Facebook group (Sacramento Steampunk Society). That way you
will receive email invitations to our events.

Today (May 20) our meeting will be at the Karma Cafe in old Folsom.
We will have our first "swap meet" as part of this meeting. Bring
things of interest to steamers that you would like to trade or sell.
I have a number of belts, and other items I've picked up that I'm not
going to use that I will bring to swap.

Sunday(May 30) we will have a Victorian Steampunk H.P. Lovecraft
picnic in McKinley Park from 11AM to dusk. There will be games,
music, dancing, and a velocipede ride. Check our Facebook group for
all of the details.

Next Thursday (May 27) our meeting will be at Fanny Ann's Saloon in
Old Sacramento.

This coming Thursday's meeting (June 17) marks the half year birthday
of the Sacramento Steampunk Society. To honor the event we will have
a "half" theme for our meeting. Whatever "half" means to you, or
creative halfness you can come up with will make the meeting more
fun. We will be meeting at the Karma Cafe in Old Folsom, and this
will be our second swap meet. You can bring all sorts of steampunky
things and possible bits and pieces for selling and swapping. The
first one was quite successful with a lot of things changing hands.
We will also be having a show and tell session so bring your cool
stuff, new acquisitions or works in progress.

We are meeting this evening at the Karma Cafe in Old Folsom. Anthony
now has his wine and beer license and may have stocked a bottle or two
just so we can toast him on his new endeavor.

This is also our half=birthday anniversary (six months ago we had our
first meeting) so think in halves and be prepared to eat a piece of
half-cake.

We will also have the return of our swap meet - so bring steamy sorts
of things that you want to sell or trade.

Tonight's regular meeting is at Fanny Ann's Saloon in Old Sacramento.
We generally take over the top floor from 6:30 to 9:30. Costumes and
gadgets are always fun, but come as you are works also. If you have
something new for show and tell (finished or not) bring it along.

We will be handing out valuable Sacramento Steampunk Society "bucks"
for attendance and attending in costume. These may be used in the
future to purchase special Society items to be determined.

Time: 6:30pm - 9:30pm
Location: Karma Cafe
Street: 727 Sutter Street
City/Town: Folsom, CA

From the Facebook Event RSVP's there will be a major steampunk
invasion of the Fairytale Town costume party this evening. Laura and I
will hang out just inside the gate from 7:00 to at least 7:30 to greet
and sign in Society members. We may then as a group decide on a second
(later) grouping time and place. Remember to buy your tickets online
