Because of some very nasty spamming action, for some time I have been
requiring applicants for membership to write an introduction of their
interest in this group. Nearly all of these have been very
interesting reading, and I apologize to all of our members for not
having the idea to post them, until now. For all of you who are
already members, I encourage you to use this topic to write an
introduction to the group.

Here is the first one:

Hello Sirs! I'm an avid steampunker and budding leather crafter,
mainly for costuming. I reside in Mountain View, CA which is a fair
distance from Sac, but love to keep my ear to the ground on everything
steampunk, and whole heartedly support your endeavors. -Joshua Merrill

Miss Veronica has just joined us with the following note:

Hello. I attended the Nova Albion convention last weekend in
Emeryville. I was there with my daughter, who is an historical
costumier and designer. We adore all things Steampunk! Met a lovely
young lady who said she and her father had organized this Sacramento
society and welcomed us to become involved. Thank you.

(That would be my Daughter, Laura, who usually remembers to include
the Admiral in her credits.)

Redcap has this to say:

I met a few members of this group (briefly) at Nova Albion and thought
it was great that there was a steampunk group in Sacramento. I'm
primarily a writer and have been known to slip some steam into my
stories. I also have a crafty side and would like to expand my
knowledge in that realm.

I love costumeing and making props. I would love to introduce my red-

I read, watch movies, draw, and make steampunk type things. I would

victorian fashion. I would be interested to be part of your group.

Greetings from Santa Cruz. I love more the archaic technology then the
fashion end of steam punk.

Phosphorwulf says:

"I am 22 years old college student at Sierra college. I am taking
mechatronics and have taken some auto mechanic courses because I love
to build stuff. I have been interested in steampunk since I was in the
third grade. I love the music involved and fashion associated with
steampunks. One thing I really want to try and do after I get done
with school is build a steam engine motorcycle. I am kind of a quiet
person and won't cause any trouble on the site."

Sun Lion Heart says: "Hale greetings to fellow adventurers, I say.
This looks like a hearty group nearby my humble abode in Carmichael.
Although relatively "nu-bee" to the Steampunk conclave, my Dad and I
have always been rather gothic compared to the rather, ahem, mundane
society, shall we say? Since Dad and I are exploring in such
fascinating and new territory, we seek guides and mentors for what
surely will be a jolly fun adventure!?"

Professor Supernius has quite a resume: "Ah, what to say... I love
steampunk. I have waited for a long time for something like this to
come along. I've played RPGs as long as they've existed. I've done
theater, Renn Faire, and the SCA. I worked in special effects in
Hollywood. I've built professional haunted houses and done work on the
Magic Castle in LA. I'm fascinated by Victoriana. I live in Sacramento
now: so I was thrilled to see you folks are here! So yes, I think I
can say that I'm "honestly interested in steampunk". <grin> I hope
you'll find me an acceptable and useful member for your august society
and I look forward to your response with the most avid anticipation. I
remain your sincere admirer, Prof. R. Wilcox Supernius (Todd W.
Spencer)"

Whisky Nick (Fred) introduces himself thusly: "I enjoyed the meet up
at the Sacramento RR Museum and my first meeting at Fanny Ann's. As
Cmdr "Whiskey" Nick Triton I've been pretty busy this year vending at
Comicon, Pirate Daze, and Sacanime and slipping in to the Dicken's
Faire and Wondercon. As a maker and prop builder I began creating
Steampunk gadgets a little over a year ago and redirected my hobby
from 1/6th scale figures to 1:1 costuming props. I specialize in paint
ops, resin casting, weathering, and construction in plastics. I don't
profess to be a great or enthusiastic reader but find my inspiration
primarily in film and art."

"I have been enthused by your dedication to forming a Northern
California Steampunk group. My only wish is that you were closer (Im

hoped that another such group would form in the Bay but since we have
failed to do so I will have to endeavor to make the drive to
Sacramento."

Good day,

My Name is Peter Vintrik. Although I am a current student of
Mechanical Engineering in Nevada. I have loved the styles of steampunk
most of my life without every considering it steampunk.
Growing up with an "Old West" mentality from my family and an "ever
seeking adventure" through my books or just exploring new places, gave
me the spark of design and wonder.
I have been designing and building now for about 12 years. Most of my
projects small, but functional with aesthetic form. I am currently re-
converting a school bus(converted rv) into an art car for Burning Man.
We run under the Nevada State flag. The states motto "battle born"
came to our name after the great struggles to get it converted from a
bus into a functional art car in less than 6 weeks.
Most goal is a Victorian Paddle Wheel/Riverboat. Currently operating
in NW Nevada, I run a small crew of 10 during the event.

Until later,
PV

From Don Ricardo Penrose-Marconi - I read The Difference Engine in
1991 and subsequently developed an elaborate but as yet not very
written novel of alternate historical fiction which includes the theme
of anachronistic technology. Burning Man exposed me to the fun of
implementing alternate personae and costumery and to the existence of
real people taking pleasure in styles and themes spanning from Verne
to Burroughs and beyond. I have also participated a couple of times in
Civil War re-enactment, albeit mostly using borrowed equipment. I am
currently constructing a small electric-powered Mutant Vehicle which I
hope will be reminiscent of a Victorian or Edwardian sense of style.
Additionally I am branching out socially after two long but wonderful
decades preparing my offspring for their invasion of the world. The
nickname given here did not arise out of a lot of thought, but that it
must include my real first name and a euphonious combination of other
names pertinent to my interests. I always wonder what I've gotten into
when establishing a new nomme de plume. I enjoyed meeting folks at my
first meeting in Folsom on 17 Jun 10.
