I know this is off topic for a running group; however I know that some of you are also cyclists. I am getting very overwhelmed shopping for beginners road bikes for myself & my husband. I have been to about 5 or 6 bike shops and have done some reading on the internet. I know that the main thing is to actually take several out and ride them, but obviously a 15 minute test ride is different than putting some real miles on it. Can any of you give me some things to make sure and look for? Suggestions? Anything is helpful at this point as we are getting so many differing opinions from the bike shops depending on what they want to sell us… “the brand doesn’t matter as much as the components” “as long as you get a good brand the components only matter if you are doing competitive racing” “brands don’t matter they are all made in the same place with a different name slapped on it”
Thanks,
Dawn

Hi Dawn!
Different stores will have different focuses depending if they cater to families/casual riders/racers.

My suggestion is to set your budget. Higher cost bikes will naturally have better components...better components make for a better ride and handling.

Depending on your planned use, I would recommend an entry level Trek or Giant. Those will meet your basic needs. You can compare that with the next higher level.

Hope that helps!  Keep us posted on what you decide.

Glad to see activity!
Good luck to everyone doing Polar Bear this weekend!
