It's election time!
Your STC New England chapter will be holding elections for Council positions for the 2013-2014 year, which begins on July 1. Elections will be held at the end of May, with an online ballot, distributed to members of the chapter.
This is our official call for nominations. This is your opportunity to nominate yourself, or another STC member, for a Council position. To nominate someone, simply reply to this email with the person's name, and the position for which you are nominating them. You can nominate yourself. The deadline for nominations is Thursday, May 16.
Volunteering for your STC chapter as a council member is a great opportunity to get involved with your local chapter, expand your resume, and network with your peers. At the end of the year, Council members in good standing will received a LinkedIn recommendation from the Council, to help publicize your service and achievements.
The open positions which need to be filled are:
- Vice President - in charge of monthly program meetings and elections, serves as a backup to the president.
- Secretary/Treasurer - this position has been combined into one position. Responsibilities include taking minutes at each council meeting, distributing and filing the minutes, and assisting with budget planning.
- Council Positions (4 open positions) - council members are expected to take on a project for the year and will report on their actions are the monthly council meetings. Some of the projects that are needed at the moment include marketing, newsletter editor, student outreach, competitions planning, sponsorship, and membership. After the election, the council will meet and everyone will have an opportunity to express their area of interest and what they would like to do for the year. In other words, this is a great opportunity to do something that you're interested in!
The duties of each member include attending the Council and program meetings (remote attendance is an option for some events). The Council meets once a month, usually in the Burlington area. Council members also take on a project and report each month on the progress, and assist as needed with programs and events. Each position has a one-year term.
Volunteering on the STC Council is a wonderful way to get involved. Where else can you advance your career, learn new skills, and have a lot of fun with your fellow technical writers? If you have questions about any of the open positions or what is involved with volunteering for the Council, please email
stcnew...@gmail.com. Any Council member would also be happy to speak with you if you have any questions.
Please consider nominating someone that you believe would make a positive contribution to your local chapter. Or nominate yourself! Send nominations to stcnew...@gmail.com.
We look forward to hearing from you.
