Social Justice Committee Seeks New Members

·         After much turnover in membership, the Social Justice Committee is trying to rebuild and regenerate. We’re open to new ideas. If you would like to see additions or changes to social justice programming at St. Charles, please come to our next meeting on October 10 at 7 PM. In particular, we are hoping to find someone with an interest in coordinating social justice education (classes like JustFaith, the Lenten soup suppers, discussion series, etc.) and people interested in advocacy efforts. But if your interests lie outside of those two areas, please don’t be deterred. Come and see how you can contribute to our parish’s efforts to make the world more just.

·         Time: Varies, includes monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month; The next meeting will be held on October 10 at 7 PM.

JustFaith Facilitators

·         We are looking for two  facilitators for this year’s JustFaith program. JustFaith is a 30-week process that initiates a person into a life of compassion. The program includes prayer, reading, discussion, film screenings, guest speakers, two retreats, and four immersion experiences with social justice/social service organizations. The facilitators are participants in the class who, like their fellow students, are taking it for the first time. Facilitating means a bit of additional responsibility for things such as reserving audiovisual equipment, scheduling service activities, and sending discussion questions in advance of a meeting of the class. JustFaith meets on a weekly basis on Thursday evenings. There are costs for books and videos and a registration fee. Total cost is about $155 -- $170 per person.

·         Time: Weekly meetings with some additional planning

Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) Needs Volunteers

·         AFAC needs volunteers to re-pack chicken each month.  While chicken packing definitely isn't glamorous, it makes a big difference for Arlington families who rely on AFAC to supplement their groceries!  Instead of a one pound pack of hotdogs, a person eligible for supplemental groceries from AFAC can choose fresh chicken.  AFAC buys chicken in bulk, and the chicken packing team re-packs it into servings.  Wear your old clothes and AFAC will provide disposable aprons and gloves.

·         Time: First, second, third, and fourth Wednesday evenings of each month, beginning at 6:30 PM until about 7:45 or 8 PM

St. Charles Interfaith Committee Has Many Opportunities

·         The St. Charles Interfaith Committee is seeking a new chair / co-chair to lead the Committee, as well as new members to help facilitate interfaith activities.  This is a wonderful way to promote greater understanding and friendship among members of different faith communities while participating in spiritual, social, educational, and service activities.

RCIA Sponsors

·         We are looking for parishioners who are interested in sponsoring those seeking initiation in the Catholic Church through the RCIA process at St. Charles. A sponsor's role is to journey with those in formation in the RCIA process, be a supportive friend, but not necessarily an expert on "things Catholic."  The main time commitment of a sponsor is attending Tuesday night RCIA sessions, attending any special rites and retreats, and being available to support the person they are sponsoring.  The length of the commitment varies. Opportunities to sponsor will occur throughout the year since we have a year round RCIA process at St. Charles.  We currently need both male and female sponsors.

·         Time: Tuesday night RCIA sessions and special events; time commitment varies.
