Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) Needs Volunteers

  • AFAC needs volunteers to re-pack chicken each month.  While chicken packing definitely isn't glamorous, it makes a big difference for Arlington families who rely on AFAC to supplement their groceries!  Instead of a one pound pack of hotdogs, a person eligible for supplemental groceries from AFAC can choose fresh chicken.  AFAC buys chicken in bulk, and the chicken packing team re-packs it into servings.  Wear your old clothes and AFAC will provide disposable aprons and gloves.
  • Time: First, second, third, and fourth Wednesday evenings of each month, beginning at 6:30 PM until about 7:45 or 8 PM
  • Contact: Jo Burns                              (571) 331-7990                    www.afacinfo.org

Panera Pick Up for Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC)

  • Drivers are needed at approximately 9 PM on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to pick up food at the Ballston Panera and deliver it to an off-sire garage or bring it to AFAC the following morning.  This would be an ongoing weekly commitment with training.  Ideally, you might get a partner to ride along and/or serve as a substitute for you.
  • Time: One hour per week
  • Contact: Danielle Rampton             (703) 845-8486                    volunte...@afac.org

  • Help jump start our advocacy listserv and take on other projects by becoming a part of the Advocacy Committee.  This St. Charles group publishes the bi-weekly social justice advocacy listserv, runs a voter registration drive in September, conducts after-Mass petition and letter-signings (e.g. DREAM Act petition, Bread for the World letters), and is looking at other opportunities to advocate for justice.
  • Time: 3 weekday evenings each year; occasionally editing the listserv (2-4 hours every other month); staying after Mass 3-4 a year to staff letter or petition signing table
  • Contact:  Elise Cleva                         elise...@gmail.com

Subscribe to the Social Justice Advocacy Listserv

  • Join a parishioner network advocating for change in public policies by engaging with public officials (local, state, or federal). This list keeps you informed about opportunities to advance social justice, such as through letter-writing campaigns, public meeting participation, and outreach. St. Charles Interfaith Committee Has Many Opportunities

  • The St. Charles Interfaith Committee is seeking a new chair / co-chair to lead the Committee, as well as new members to help facilitate interfaith activities.  This is a wonderful way to promote greater understanding and friendship among members of different faith communities while participating in spiritual, social, educational, and service activities.

RCIA Sponsors

  • We are looking for parishioners who are interested in sponsoring those seeking initiation in the Catholic Church through the RCIA process at St. Charles. A sponsor's role is to journey with those in formation in the RCIA process, be a supportive friend, but not necessarily an expert on "things Catholic."  The main time commitment of a sponsor is attending Tuesday night RCIA sessions, attending any special rites and retreats, and being available to support the person they are sponsoring.  The length of the commitment varies. Opportunities to sponsor will occur throughout the year since we have a year round RCIA process at St. Charles.  We currently need both male and female sponsors.
  • Time: Tuesday night RCIA sessions and special events; time commitment varies.
