It's been suggested we contact Gerry Rogers about the Dec 17th Lanterns for Housing. How's the letter below? Should we just invite her or ask her to speak?
---
Hi Gerry,
I'm writing you as a member of a newly formed group called St. John's Citizens for Affordable Housing.
We're hosting a "Lanterns for Housing" event in Scotia Square at 3:30pm on Sat Dec 17th. Our goal is to raise awareness about the growing housing crisis in St. John's. There will be a free touton serving to accompany a display of lanterns with housing facts and personal stories on them We will then march with the lanterns to a new condo site planned by the Jumping Bean and display them there.
We're still establishing ourselves as a group, but our main mandate is to advocate the province to establish rent controls by unit in the province. We're hoping the NDP can help make this happen. A few people have told me to contact you regarding our group and event because affordable housing is one of your main concerns. Would you and the NDP like to participate, and help us spread the word? Would you like to speak at the event?
The Lanterns for Housing event is part of International Human Rights Week. I'm attaching two posters. One is about panel discussions on "Inequality, Poverty, and Homelessness” happening on Dec 10th, hosted by Amnesty and OccupyNL. The other poster is a general one listing all the events for the week.
We're working on a press release for the event, which we can include you in if you are interested and/or just send along to you as well.
We look forward to working with you now or in the future, and hearing your ideas on securing affordable housing.
Sincerely,
St. John's Citizens for Affordable Housing
