We didn’t take minutes for this meeting but this is what was decided.
- Canceling the 99% Film Fest showing for that week to not compete
with Words in Edgewise (and not be too overwhelmed!)
- We'll show "Poor No More" in January sometime...
- Dec 17th event Called Lanterns for Housing
- We will gather at 3:30 in the Scotia Square (where there hopefully
be lots of shoppers and people in general)
- There we will be serving Toutons for free (made by Hope) and
getting people to make their own lanterns. Placing housing facts or
life experiences/stories on them.
- Then we will walk to the billboard by jumping bean, which states
luxury condos coming soon, and put up a sign (made by Sasha) and leave
the lanterns.
- the Lanterns will be tea lights inside of glass jars with light
(both in colour and weight, to get light to pass through) paper pasted
on the outside.
- We need to have a couple of the lanterns completed before the 17th
but we did not finalize a time. I suggest we have another meeting next
Tuesday to make some. We have the glass jars. We need paper and tea
lights. I will purchase some tea lights. If you have some that you
would like to donate that would be great. Also if any of you have a
light paper around that would be great as well but I will get some of
that as well.
- Justin will complete the press release and then Aida will create the
partnership letter off of that.
Human rights Day event at the Lantern Dec 10 4:30-8
- Asked that one of us become part of the panel "Inequality, Poverty,
and Homelessness.” I agreed that I would. The panel discussion is from
6:30-8:00 pm. If any of you have any suggestions of what I should say
PLEASE send them along. We discussed that I would mention the city
building affordable housing, what is affordable, rent controls
(helping to keep affordable housing that is already built). I would
like to have occupy NL as part of this 15 min presentation as the
organizers did want a person on the panel from there. So any
suggestions on what you want put out there just send me an e-mail.
- We discussed the possibility of having a table set up for this event
to promote Dec 17th event and to have people write on paper to post on
the Lanterns. Anyone up for this?
I think that was it. Please add anything if I missed anything. I hope
everyone is feeling well, mentally and physically. I know we all can
get a little overwhelmed with the state of the world these days.
