Because I don't see how I will ever be able to afford a house of my own in St. John's, especially as a farmer (someone of low-income)
Because rent and real estate costs are only rising, and incomes are not.
Because it was hard to find affordable rent when my friends and I were looking this fall....we weren't picky and we got lucky! $250/mo + utilities and phone
Because, while I can manage to pay my own rent currently for a room in a rooming house, as a single individual, I don't see how I could pay rent in a house big enough for a family.
Because I don't know how I will support myself as a senior on a pension, esp if I have accessibility issues and have even more limited affordable options.
I think defining 'affordable' as being a reasonable percentage of one's income is important, and taking dependents, retirement savings etc. into consideration.
Another thought: affordable housing is connected to poverty issues in general, such as a relatively low minimum wage and the fact that many occupations are under-valued.
What is a 'living wage' in this town?
