Hi,

It is always exciting times for this vibrant community, this year is no different. The STC India Chapter is run by a set of volunteers who are willing to serve the community alongside their day job. The activities, pan India, are year long, culminating in a grand annual conference. The elected Admin Council each year brings in a new perspective and vibrancy to the activities. This year we have a few strategies that we are implementing or have already implemented.

  1. Global Collaboration - We have implemented a collaboration activity with the others chapters across the globe. The details are in the word doc, STC India Chapter-Strategy for Collaboration.docx, attached to this mail. The Phoenix chapter responded. Hoping that a few others will also respond soon.
  2. STC India App - an exclusive app is being created for the India Chapter for ease of use and for dynamic outreach. It is in the coding phase, will soon be tested. Estimated date of launching is August 20th, 2018.
  3. Education Initiative - Student Outreach Program (StOP) - one of the most ambitious intiatives; it is a work in progress and will be launched by the mid of this month. a The StOPoutreach program will help to create awareness in the student community about technical communications as a career. The program will include a 2 hour session and a ½ day workshop. It will be implemented by the community volunteers (who are interested to spend time with students in schools and colleges).
  4. Domain Expertise Knowledge Base-DEKB - to be launched soon

The DEKB (pronounced as DECK), will be a repository to gather information on domains that the technical communication industry in India and abroad is working on, in various regions. The plan is to have a knowledge base that will be created by the community, for the community. This will help understand the fundamentals of a particular domain; what to learn, how much to learn; to be successful in that particular domain. The decision to have it in the cloud, or as a Wiki, or a part of Wikipedia will be decided by the Admin Council. A special task force (DEKB-TF) will be created with a few members from the Admin Council this year to ensure the continuity of this project for the next five years. Domains, to name a few, will be BFSI (Banking, Financial, Security, and Insurance), Healthcare, Networking, Aerospace, Emerging technologies like IoT, Robotics, and Manufacturing etc. Two templates will be provided to the global community to submit their contribution to this repository, all the submissions will have the respective author(s) names to acknowledge the contribution to the knowledge base. A mail will be sent to the community in India and also to the global community requesting content for this repository. The content can be sent to a specific mail id. The templates are attached to this mail for your reference.

    The repository will include

    1.       Concepts

    2.       Practical applications

    3.       Situational problems and solutions

    4.       Videos

    5.       Demos

    6.       PowerPoint presentations

    7.       Templates (that are ready to use or are reference material)

These are the key four strategies this year to help the community learn and grow. The STC India Chapter will continue to serve the technical communications arena in the years to come. As all of us know, STC India Chapter is a recipient of the global Community Chapter Gold Award for two successive years, we are aiming for the Platinum for this year's activities. We expect the community to contribute liberally in all areas of learning and growth, looking forward to active participation from all the members.

Warm Regards
Kiranmayee
