Hello, SIG members ...

We are such a quiet bunch. I assume that no news is good news, and that we've all been participating (or lurking) on other content strategy lists and in other groups.

Here is the list of topics under Content Strategy and Design at the Summit:

Also, as the SIG manager, I need to know whether to get an idea of who might be willing to staff a CS SIG table at the Summit, at the Monday night Community Reception. If I have a person or two to help me, I will book a table and produce something as a give-away.

If there is no interest, I would rather not have a table that has no representation and no materials.

Let me know - I am willing to do the prep if I know there is some support!

I will be at the Community Reception. I've volunteered to help the Chicago chapter host it. Depending on how many people help with that, it's likely I can be available for part of the time to help at the CS SIG table.
Last year at the UX SIG table, we ran a card sort that got us a lot of traffic.

I wonder if there is something interactive and CS-related that we could do.
Just to throw something out there: give people a worksheet to do an impromptu inventory of their online profiles? (I did this recently and discovered I have a LOT of them).

I'll be at the STC.  I arrive Sunday 5/20 at 11:00 a.m. and am staying at the Hyatt O'Hare.  Let me check on what I need to do as secretary with the STC-ITC.  Otherwise, I would be more than happy to help with our group.

I'll be there to represent the Single Sourcing SIG at the reception. I'm also doing a presentation :)

I just talked to Traci Nathans-Kelly of the STC-ITC, and I'm going to manage our table that evening.  I hope someone can switch with me for a few minutes that evening so I can visit the Content Strategy table!

Hi Mollye,

It will be great to see you there!  We were going to switch to a wiki for user docs, then DITA, and now that we were acquired by BMC, the wiki is back on :)

I like the idea of something interactive for the CS-SIG table. I tend toward the quick and simple - like a  "content strategy is to techcomm like a ________ is to ___________" and then declare a winner at the end of the evening. It leaves us more time to talk to people who might come by.

I can maybe bring a mounted poster or two that illustrates what content strategy is about.

I like the analogy idea. Seems like a fun way to invite discussion.
We could have people join the list to find out the winner.
If we had a Twitter account, we could have them check/follow the Twitter account to find out. :)

Good idea - do we want a Twitter account, or just a hashtag? Or both?

I would lean towards going ahead and starting a SIG Twitter account. My gut says a hashtag may not get much traction. Though we should definitely be sure to tweet all this to the STC12 tag, when we've got it together.

I could commit to helping with our tweets, if there were a couple other co-volunteers.

The UX SIG Twitter account does alright (http://www.twitter.com/stcuux), especially since more volunteers started contributing. I put together the guidelines for tweeting there. The gist was that that SIG's tweets are geared towards tech comers with UX interests and entry-level UXers. Maybe we could do something similar for our CS group?

OK, I'll send a link to a Google doc later so we can all discuss more specific details.

OK, everyone, I posted some goals and guidelines about tweeting for the SIG on Google docs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e9hebp6HMPxNsLaE4Gmu5nEZGqy0E1mU-q4nt-b9p20/edit
Please discuss with us there.

Hi, Kristi.

I'm not used to all this activity in this group--and the emails.

I'm having a tough time figuring out how to set this up as Digest instead of individual emails. I've done it for Yahoo groups, but I'm not familiar with how to do it with Google, and believe it or not, I've not had good search results on this. Do you happen to know how to set it to Digest?
(I'm too embarrassed to send this to the whole list. :-( )

Thank you,

June

Hi, there, June. One of the links that gets included at the bottom of the group email takes you to the group page, where you can set email options:  http://groups.google.com/group/stc-cs?hl=en
On the right side of that page, there is a link: Edit my membership. Here's a direct link: http://groups.google.com/group/stc-cs/subscribe?hl=en
That will let you choose digest.

So I've known that the STC Summit is coming, and I never did get my act together to tweet about CS at the Summit. But I did create a quick, fun activity for the table and with any luck can prepare a little something else tonight.

I will also bring a book as a give-away for the best contest entry.

If any of you can help out at the table, that would be great. Otherwise, please stop by the table - I'll be there!
