CALL FOR PROGRESSION SPEAKERS
In a progression, 10 to 12 speakers each deliver an oral presentation (5 to 10 minutes) at a roundtable, to a group of 6 to 10 participants. Each speaker then moderates a short discussion with the participants for 15 to 20 minutes. Then the participants change tables to hear a different presentation. Each presentation is made 2 or 3 times, each time with a different group of roundtable participants. The topics we select will be management topics (of course) in the areas of managing people, teams, or projects. If you’d like to know what topics we’ve had in the past let me know and I’ll send you a list.
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?
Send me email (rahel....@gmail.com) and include the following information:
1. Your proposed topic: title and brief description (50 words or less)
2. Your name
3. Your employer
4. Your (snail) mail address
5. Your phone number(s)
6. Your email address
7. Past presentations that you’ve given at other conferences, including the year, the topic, and the conference
8. Optional: A short bio (100 words or less)
SELECTION PROCESS
We will select 10 or 12 speakers to participate, and we want to provide a well-rounded slate of topics for attendees to choose from (i.e., a balance between project management, people management, career management, etc.).
SCHEDULE & DEADLINES
In order to meet STC’s deadline, here is the schedule:
- September 27: deadline for you to submit your information (see above for what you need to send)
- October 1: we will notify you whether your proposal is part of the final slate
- October 4: submission of the final proposal to the STC conference committee
WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?
If you're a seasoned presenter, you know the benefits of participating.
However, if you've never presented at a conference, but maybe you've thought about it, I encourage you to do it. Here are a few reasons that you might consider participating:
- It's easier to justify attending the conference to your employer if you're a presenter.
- Participating in a progression requires less of a time commitment because you only need to develop about 10 minutes of material to present (and be ready to facilitate discussion).
- Progressions offer a great opportunity to connect one-on-one with attendees on topics that you care about. (You will be presenting your information to 6-10 people at a time during a progression.)
- Being a conference presenter is a great way to contribute to our field, plus it looks good on your resume.
- In past years, progression speakers have received a discount to attend the conference. I cannot confirm whether this is the case this year, but I’m sure that the planners are considering it.
If you'd like to participate, or if you have questions, let me know. If you're not sure what topic you would present, that's okay - contact me anyway. Perhaps I can help you develop a topic, or you can select one at a later time. I look forward to hearing from you.
