Since we are talking Stavers.....  thought I would show ya'll the Staver tool box I bought on Ebay a while back. Someone stepped on the lid at some time and broke the Staver aluminum plate that was riveted to the lid. Funny, the lid is not bent at all, it apparently gave just enough to break the plate in two. It does fit tightly together though, and is very hard to see. Now, I just need the rest of the car to put it on.....

On Wednesday, I made a pilgrimage to Wallace and 76th Street in Englewood. As far as I know, this is the site former Staver Carriage (and Partin Palmer, then Drexel) factory in Englewood. One of these days I really need to find a Teens map of the area, but it's darn close. I found a brick of the correct era and brought it home.

I saw that in eBay--very glad it went to a good home. Also glad you waited (I assume) until it had been listed a few times and the price came down to earth!

I paid $200 for it. I am building a speedster out of a chain drive 1919 American LaFrance Fire Engine. The hose bed, pump and all the fire related stuff was gone (along with the engine) so I decided to make a speedster out of it. Point being I have plenty of room on the running boards for a tool box. Any period tool box that's not rusted out is usually a couple of hundred anyway.  I will of course, leave the Staver plate on the lid.  I have always hoped I could find a whole or partial car to put it on, or find someone with a Staver that could use it. Anyway, that's the story.....

Glad to see some activity on the group site :)

Amazing to know the factory once sat on that site. I will make a pilgrimage to the site as well next time I'm up that way. I also have a 1918 American LaFrance fire engine that served in Chicago Heights, Illinois until 1941 and then The Village of Phoenix (next to Harvey) Illinois until it was retired in 1952. and..... It has a Buda Engine in it that was made in Harvey. So, I have many Chicago area interests :)

I have been told the old Buda factory still stands. Don't know if that's true or not. Too bad we don't make anything anymore :(
