Background: Little is known about the efficacy of providing manual therapy in addition to cervical and scapulothoracic stabilization exercises in people with mechanical neck pain (MNP). Objectives To compare the effects of stabilization exercises plus manual therapy to those of stabilization exercises alone on disability, pain, range of motion (ROM), and quality of life in patients with MNP.
Methods: One hundred two patients with MNP (18-65 years of age) were recruited and randomly allocated into 2 groups: stabilization exercise without (n = 51) and with (n = 51) manual therapy. The program was carried out 3 days per week for 4 weeks. The Neck Disability Index, visual analog pain scale, digital algometry of pressure pain threshold, goniometric measurements, and Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey were used to assess participants at baseline and after 4 weeks.
Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that stabilization exercises with manual therapy may be superior to stabilization exercises alone for improving disability, pain intensity at night, cervical rotation motion, and quality of life in patients with MNP.
Interventions: The experimental group performed task-specific trunk exercises on an unstable surface (physio ball) while the control group performed them on a stable surface (plinth). In addition to regular acute physiotherapy, both the groups underwent 1 hour of trunk exercises a day, four days a week for three weeks.
Results: The difference between the baseline characteristics of the patients belonging to both groups was not statistically significant. Post-intervention, both the groups improved on trunk control and functional balance but the experimental group improved more significantly than the control group (change scores of between-group comparison for the total Trunk Impairment Scale 3.06 (1.43), dynamic sitting balance 1.47 (1.36) and coordination 1.3 (0.67) subscales of Trunk Impairment Scale; the total Brunel Balance Assessment 1.8 (1.4) and stepping 1.87 (1.6) component of Brunel Balance Assessment). The level of significance was set at P Conclusions: The trunk exercises performed on the physio ball are more effective than those performed on the plinth in improving both trunk control and functional balance in acute stroke patients, suggesting a task-specific effect and also a carry-over effect.
Study objective: Dysmenorrhea is the most common cyclic pelvic pain, and it affects the quality of life of many women. We sought to compare the effects of massage and isometric exercises on primary dysmenorrhea.
Interventions: The student groups were randomly divided into massage, isometric exercises, and control groups. The first group received 2 consecutive cycles of effleurage massage with lavender oil. The second group had 8 weeks of isometric exercises. No intervention was performed for the control group.
Main outcome measurements: Pain intensity was measured and recorded by using a visual analog scale. In addition, the duration of pain was measured in hours, and Spielberger's questionnaire was used to measure the anxiety level.
Results: Pain intensity had significantly reduced in the massage and exercises groups; the reduction was more significant in the massage group (P LinkedIn and 3rd parties use essential and non-essential cookies to provide, secure, analyze and improve our Services, and to show you relevant ads (including professional and job ads) on and off LinkedIn. Hello All, We keep hearing about our friends and relatives complaining about back pain at various stages. This article is little long but I cannot make it short either. I am going to categorize the back pain for you to have a better understanding.
Level II. You injured your back from a minor accident or by nature of your work but, manageable pain, but having some restrictions in your daily work. Not able to sit for long time, you should be able to point out exactly where the pain is.
Level III. Same case as above but, not able to bend or lift any weight, having trouble with your daily chores, some pinching pain all the times, but I can do my work with some discomfort. Not able to play my badminton, not able to do my kitchen work, if I work for 1 hour, the pain increases. Symptoms like this.
Level IV. I have to see the doctor! One day morning, I could not getup from the bed, severe pain, unbearable pain, I cannot drive my car, not able to sit for 30 minutes, not able to walk, getting up from bed is painful in the morning and so on.
Level V. It is severe, I feel some tingling feeling in my legs. It comes and goes. I went to a doctor and the physio, they gave me medicine, asked me to do the exercise, they did that ultra sound therapy, wax treatment and finally it was better in two weeks and I started doing the exercises and it is much better now!
Now we have some understanding about the symptoms and the different levels of back pain. Generally when we go to the doctors we spend 10 minutes with them, and they try to explain the problem and not many of us ask questions or understand in detail. They ask you to take the X Ray or a MRI, they know your problem, and advice the treatment accordingly. We move on with the prescription and continue with our regular routine.
But, do you know by doing the physiotherapy for 2 weeks, it will only help us get on our foot. It will reduce your inflammation, you will feel better in one or two weeks and move on until you come back with more pain after few months or years. Unless you continue with the exercises and also increase your core strength, you cannot completely cure your back pain. As far as back pain, neck pain or shoulder pain is concerned, they take longer time to get cured.
Ok, what do we do now. The good news is from category I to VI, it can be treated with exercises. This is where you should understand the difference between, a Physio treatment and intense exercises with a trainer.
Meeting the doctor is the first step, taking some tablets and a 15 minutes exercises is very important for few weeks but that is not enough. I have shared my own experience here ( I was in level V). Fortunately, I hired a personal trainer and within three months of consistent workout, I came out of back pain. It was an eye opener for me. Now I do not have any back pain and I am running, teaching exercises and participate in marathons.
Only a personal trainer can take you to the next level of fitness and a physiotherapist treats like a first aid and can teach you what to do. They cannot come and train with you like a personal trainer. Actually it is two step process. Going to a physiotherapists is the fist step and working with a personal trainer or doing your own exercise is the second and important step. Unfortunately, the second step is not popular and ignored.
Write a function deepEqual that takes two values and returns true only if they are the same value or are objects with the same properties, where the values of the properties are equal when compared with a recursive call to deepEqual.
To find out whether values should be compared directly (use the === operator for that) or have their properties compared, you can use the typeof operator. If it produces "object" for both values, you should do a deep comparison. But you have to take one silly exception into account: because of a historical accident, typeof null also produces "object".
There is a spelling mistake. It is not lenght, but length (2x).And again, what if this condition is not true? There is no code that deals with that case, except for the return true after that if block, yet your function should then return false.
So here is that occasion where you should perform a recursive call, so any nested objects are compared in the same way. Just a[key]===b[key] will be false when these two values are separate objects. But the condition should really be true when those objects have the same properties, and same values for them... which is exactly what your function is able to do: so call it here.
Secondly, this is not the time to return true, as this will exit the loop without checking also the other keys, and there the outcome could be negative... And one "negative" is enough to make the overall end result false. So while things are good, you should continue the loop.
This study compared the muscle activities of the erector spinae (ES), the external oblique (EO), and the rectus abdominis (RA) on three different surfaces. The purpose of this study was to determine which surface induces the highest muscle activity during the plank exercises. The information from this study can be used to recommend plank exercises to athletes and patients with weak core muscles.
The subjects include 20 adult males attending S University in Seoul. Participants completed each plank exercise on three different surfaces. To measure muscle activities, researchers used the values from electromyography. The measurement excluded the initial two and final two seconds and collected information on the RA, EO, and ES in each posture of each subject.
