Hi All,

We’re trying to develop a stronger picture of recent angling trends. Can states answer two questions about overall (resident and nonresident) fishing license sales?

  1. By what percentage were your overall fishing license sales up or down in calendar year 2022 vs. 2021?
  2. By what percentage are your overall fishing license sales up or down for the first half of 2023 vs. 2022 (January through June)?

If you can report the percent change in the number of overall fishing licenses sold instead of dollar amounts that’s preferable. Thank you!

  1. By what percentage were your overall fishing license sales up or down in calendar year 2022 vs. 2021? 22 was down by 1.236%
  2. By what percentage are your overall fishing license sales up or down for the first half of 2023 vs. 2022 (January through June)?  23 is up by 1.968%

This is by the number of license, not cost of license.

We wanted to share the results from our questions last month regarding fishing license sales trends, below.

With 24 states responding, fishing license sales were reported to have dropped an average of 6.3% overall in 2022 compared to 2021, with all states reporting decreased sales. For January through June 2023, reported sales increased an average of 1.3% compared to the first half of 2022, with 16 of 24 states reporting increases.
