I would like to check the uniformity/correctness of data going into the registry.  I know that hospitals can hire coding consultants to abstract charts and compare the abstracts to what was coded by the facility for billing purposes.  I am wondering if there is something like that for trauma registry.  Has anyone heard of such a consultant?
In some states they send out a chart and make everyone code the same case, but sometimes consensus doesn't mean it is correct.   Do any states have processes that they use that seem to be working?

Thanks,

Hi Lindsey,
In alaska we have hired Pomphrey Consulting to complete a validation study on our registry. They measure 3 things; case inclusion, data abstraction, data entry of the state trauma registrar.
They are nationally recognized by TQIP, ACS, ATS, Etc.
I will cc them on this email and you can ask them more questions.

Thanks
