Asking what you folks recommend for free HTML software for newbies who have never edited web pages.

I use Notetab Lite myself but deal in code level which is great for mass changes.

But I am not sure such is good for a neophyte. The site in question has various levels of coding, which also includes JavaScript, CSS and plain HTML 4.0 but possibly others as well.

Also though this software would have a short leaning curve so as to not discourage a new editor.

I can give them no help on JavaScript but possibly some direction on CSS.

Thanks,

I highly recommend Microsoft Expression Web-  it is free and a safe place to get the download is available here:  https://www.usgenweb.org/tutorials/index.html

It is easy for new people, and as they learn the program will allow them to get better at coding.  I utilize it ALL of the time and offer assistance to anyone, so you can give your person my contact information if you would like to.

Thank you,

I couldn't get the link on that page to work, here is one I used:

The only problem is that I have not been able to get it to work on a Windows 11 system... It works great on my old Windows 7 system though!  If anyone has gotten it to work on Windows 11, PLEASE let me know how you did that.

If you do not need a WYSIWYG option, CoffeeCup has a free editor that allows for a split screen so you can see your changes. (but you can't edit from that)  https://www.coffeecup.com/free-editor/

I can also recommend Kompozer. I used it for a number of years while I was learning HTML. It is also listed under website editors on the USGenWeb Website Caretakers page at

Kompozer:  https://sourceforge.net/projects/kompozer/

I hope these suggestions prove useful.
The following are ones that I have used in the past:
SeaMonkey
BlueGriffin
These were not difficult to learn. (IMHO)
GitHub has a host of suggestions:
I have also installed Microsoft Expression Web on my Windows 11 PC, without any error messages but I have yet to attempt at developing anything.
My go-to application is DreamWeaver8 which does complain on installation (Win11) but from there on in, works OK..
Cheers,
Leon

I use Notepad++. It's fee, well-supported, works fine for Win10/11 and has numerous tools to make direct HTML management more efficient; but it is strictly for editing raw HTML directly.

If I were to attempt regular WYSIWYG management or need to develop a new master site template, I might utilize the free LiberOffice Writer ( https://www.libreoffice.org/ ) , save as HTML files, and then use NotePad++ as needed for subsequent edits, integrations, etc.
